Pullman, Wash. -- Freshman Joyce Chong shot a 75 on Tuesday and is in fifth place at the WSU Cougar Cup with the final round set for Wednesday.
All of Nevada's players improved from Monday to Tuesday as conditions improved at the event, which is hosted by Washington State.
Chong is six strokes back of the lead, held by Gonzaga's Victoria Fallgren at 1-under.
"Today was definitely better. The weeather was nicer," Nevada coach Chad Spencer said. "We left a few shots out there but I am proud of Joyce and how well she is playing."
Nevada is tied for sixth overall, 20 shots off the lead held by the host school.
Louise Yi shot a 77 on Tuesday and moved into a tie for 24th. Jamie Yam is tied for 28th after a 79. Allie Weng and Lauren Hernandez combined to improve by nine strokes on the day compared to Monday's round.
"We are looking to have a strong finish tomorrow and see how far we can move up the leaderboard," Spencer said.
