Nevada Post-Game Notes
vs. Cal
Sept. 17, 2010

With the win, Nevada …
-    Improves to 3-0 on the season, 493-434-33 overall (104th season) and 113-94 as an FBS school.
-    Coach Chris Ault improved to 209-96-1 in his 26-year career.
-    Narrowed the gap in the all-time series to 22-2-1.

BEST START: At 3-0, this marks Nevada’s best start in its FBS history (since 1992). The 3-0 start also marks Nevada’s best start since the 1991 team went 12-0 to start the season.

BEATING A RANKED FOE: Cal entered the game ranked 24th in the nation. The last time Nevada beat a ranked team came in 2005 when Nevada topped No. 16 Fresno State 38-35. This was Nevada’s second win as an FBS school over a Pac-10 foe. The Pack beat Washington in Seattle in 2003.

KAP NOW SEVENTH: With a pair of first-half rushing touchdowns, Colin Kaepernick moved into a tie seventh place in NCAA history in rushing touchdowns by a quarterback. Kaepernick now has 45 in his career, which is tied with Brad Smith of Missouri. The all-time leader is Eric Crouch of Nebraska (59).

TWO AND TWO IN ALL THREE: Colin Kaepernick has thrown for at least two touchdowns and rushed for at least two touchdown in all three of Nevada’s games this year. Kaepernick accounted for 329 yards of total offense and five touchdown (three rushing, two passing).

100-YARD MARK: Vai Taua and Colin Kaepernick each went over the 100-yard mark on Friday against the Bears. This marks the 14th time Kaepernick has eclipsed the century mark and the 19th time that Taua has done so. This marks the ninth time that Kaepernick and Taua have gone over the 100-yard mark in the same game.

PICK-SIX: Marlon Johnson’s first career interception came at a big time for Nevada. After Cal scored on its opening drive of the second half, narrowing Nevada’s lead to 24-21, the Nevada offense went three-and-out. But Johnson stepped in front of a Kevin Riley pass and took it 65 yards to the house to give Nevada a 31-21 lead. The pick-six was Nevada’s first since Nov. 22, 2008 against Boise State when Jerome Johnson (28 yards) and Joshua Mauga (46) each had interception returns for touchdowns.

MILLER, WILLIAMS GET PICKS: Senior cornerback Doyle Miller picked off his third career interception in the first quarter as Miller nabbed a Kevin Riley pass that bounced off of a receiver. The interception was the second of the year for Miller as he also had one against Eastern Washington. Miller later had a huge pass break-up on a Cal third-and-goal play that forced a field goal attempt.
Sophomore safety Duke Williams recorded his first pick of his career, a fourth-quarter interception that helped sealed the win.

MOCH MOVES UP: With a sack in the first quarter, senior defensive end Dontay Moch moved up on a couple of Nevada’s all-time lists. He is now tied for second all-time in sacks with Kevin Basped at 23.5. He also moved past Basped (42.5) in career tackles for loss as Moch now has 43.0 for his career.

ET CETERA: Nevada won the toss and elected to receive … Cal kicked off to start the game and the Bears defended the north goal … Colin Kaepernick moved out of tie with Vince Young of Texas and into 12th place alone all-time in NCAA career rushing back a quarterback. He entered the game tied with Young at 3,127 career rushing yards …
