Box Score DAVIS, Calif. - The University of Nevada (6-4) volleyball lost its opening match of the Aggie Invitational today to Portland (6-6) 3-1. The Wolf Pack took the first set 25-21 but the Pilots won the next three 25-18, 25-23 and 25-17 to win the match. With the loss the Pack are 6-4 on the season while Portland evened its record at 6-6 on the year.
Nevada used 3-0 run to break a 16-16 tied and led the rest of the first set to win 25-21. Senior outside hitter Kylie Harrington ended set one with a kill off an assist from junior setter Tatiana Santiago. The Pack hit .275 in the first set and the Pilots .089
Set two was tied for the sixth time at 9-9 but Portland scored the next three points as they went on to win 25-18 to even the match at one set apiece. The Pilots hit and outstanding .440 in set two and the Pack just .172.
There were nine ties in the third set before the Pilots won 25-23. With the set tied at 23-23 Portland got back-to-back kills to seal the victory and take a 2-1 lead in the match. The Pack hit .211 and the Pilots .294 in set three.
With set four tied at 8-8 Portland put together a 9-2 run to move in front 17-10 and take control of the final set. Nevada was unable to recover as the Pilots won the set 25-17 and match 3-1. The Pack hit just .100 while Portland finished with a .375 attack percentage in the final set.
Harrington led the Pack with 16 kills while freshman outside hitter Grace Anxo added 10. Santiago totaled 35 assists while sophomore defensive specialist Kelly Chang had 10 digs.
Kati Hronek and Ariel Usher had 19 and 16 kills respectively to lead the Pilots. Setter Madison Smith finished with 43 assists while Danielle Dupar totaled 26 digs.
Nevada hit .205 in the match while Portland posted a .272 attack percentage. Both teams had seven blocks in the match with Santiago topping the Wolf Pack with three.
Nevada will play UC Davis at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday and close out play in the invitational versus Oregon State at 4:30 p.m. tomorrow.
