Nevada At Aggie Invitational
After two weekends at home the University of Nevada volleyball team will travel to Davis, Calif. for the Aggie Invitational this weekend. The invitational will be the final weekend before Western Athletic Conference play begins.
Nevada will play Portland (5-5) on Friday at 4:30 p.m. then take on UC Davis (5-3) on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. and Oregon State (5-5) at 4:30 p.m.
Wolf Pack Win Nevada Invitational
Nevada won its second home invitational in a row winning the Wolf Pack Invitational last weekend. The Pack knocked off Northern Arizona (3-1) as senior outside hitter Kylie Harrington led four players in double figures with 13 kills and she added 13 digs to post her third double-double of the season.
The Wolf Pack lost 3-1 to #24 Arizona on Friday night as Harrington had 15 kills. Nevada would need to sweep Pacific on Saturday to claim the title as the Tigers were 2-0 after Friday’s play. The Pack won the first set 26-24 and trailed in set two 23-14 before rallying for a 27-25 victory, then closed out the match with a 25-21 set three win to claim the title. Junior Erin Garvey and sophomore Janelle Batista had 10 kills each to lead the team.
Batista and Harrington Named To Wolf Pack Invitational All-Tournament Team
Nevada placed two players on the Wolf Pack Invitational All-Tournament team led by MVP Janelle Batista. Batista averaged 2.36 kills, 1.27 blocks and 3.05 points while hitting .321 in the three matches. In the Northern Arizona and Pacific matches she totaled a career-high 10 kills.
Harrington averaged 3.36 kills, 2.18 digs and 3.86 points with a .157 attack percentage.
Team Notes: The Wolf Pack has won invitational’s each of the last two weekends that were played at home in the Virginia Street Gym, the Nevada and Wolf Pack Invitational...Nevada had its season-high four-match win streak snapped in a 3-1 loss to #24 Arizona, Sept. 3...Nevada was picked to finish seventh in the Preseason Western Athletic Conference Coaches’ Poll...the Pack rank seventh in hitting (.184%), ninth in assists (10.29 aps), sixth in blocking (2.34 bps), ninth in digs (12.44 dps), eighth in opponent hitting percentage (.237%), eight in kills (11.62 kps) and seventh in service aces (1.18 saps) in the WAC.
Player Notes: Senior outside hitter Kylie Harrington has led the Pack in kills in six-of-nine matches this season...Harrington has three double-doubles vs. Weber State(11 k, 10 d) on Sept. 3, vs. Notre Dame (17 k, 10 d) on Sept. 4 and vs. Northern Arizona (13 k, 10 d) Sept. 3...freshman outside hitter Grace Anxo produced a double-double in her first match vs. Utah Valley on Aug. 27 with 12 kills and 11 digs...junior setter Tatiana Santiago has the Pack’s other double-double with 22 assists and 10 digs vs. Maryland...senior middle blocker Lindsay Baldwin (8 ba), Anxo (1 bs, 7 ba) and sophomore middle blocker Janelle Batista (8 ba) all had eight blocks in the Pack’s 3-2 victory over Notre Dame (Sept. 4) which is the sixth best total in the WAC this season...Baldwin surpassed 400 career total blocks after her 8 blocks (1 bs, 7 ba) vs. Northern Arizona (Sept. 3)...Baldwin hit .667 in the Pack’s 3-0 victory over Weber State (Sept. 3)...Santiago ranks eighth averaging 9.00 assists per set in the WAC...Batista is seventh in blocking averaging 1.10 per set in the WAC...Harrington is eighth in kills (3.21 kps) and in points (3.63 pps) per set in the conference...senior libero Nicole Link has led the Nevada in digs six times this season posting 23 dig effort vs. Northern Arizona (Sept. 3)...Link ranks sixth in the WAC averaging 4.00 digs per set...Harrington, Baldwin, Anxo and Santiago have started all nine matches this season while Link has started all nine matches at libero.
Pack Players Climbing Career Lists:
Four Pack players are current ranked in the top 10 in various career lists and continue to climb the charts this season. Senior middle blocker Lindsay Baldwin is fifth in career points with 1,131.5, is third with 369 block assists and fourth with 409 total blocks. Her .242 attack percentage is ninth on the career list. Three more solo blocks will move her into a tie with Carla Busalacchi (1990-93) for 10th.
Senior outside hitter Kylie Harrington is ranked in the Pack career top 10 in two categories. Harrington is seventh with 1,070.5 points and 10th with 963 career kills.
Another senior Nicole Link is fifth with 1,150 career digs. The Pack’s libero is 17 digs from moving past Jennifer White (1990-93) into fourth.
Junior setter Tatiana Santiago has 916 career assists and 84 more would make her the 10th player in Nevada history to reach the 1000 assist mark. Santiago just moved into the number 10 spot after last weekends play.
