With the win, Nevada …
- Improves to 2-0 on the season, 492-434-33 overall (104th season) and 112-94 as an FBS school.
- Coach Chris Ault improved to 208-96-1 in his 26-year career.
- Narrowed the gap in the all-time series to 9-2.
3,000-3,000 CLUB: Colin Kaepernick ripped a 57-yard run on Nevada’s first drive of the game and in doing so, he crossed over the 3,000-yard mark for his career. That makes him the ninth player in NCAA history to rush for 3,000 yards and throw for 3,000 yards in his career.
Kaepernick also moved past former teammate Luke Lippincott (3,014 yards) on Nevada’s all-time career rushing list. Kaepernick is the first quarterback in Nevada history to rush for 3,000 yards and the seventh player in Nevada history to hit the mark.
KAP PASSES THE HAWK: With a pair of touchdowns on the ground, Colin Kaepernick passed Frank Hawkins on Nevada’s all-time scoring list as Kaepernick now has 266 points in his career while Hawkins scored 254 points in his Hall of Fame career from 1977-80. Kaepernick and Hawkins are tied with 44 career touchdowns scored.
MOCH MOVES UP: With a sack in the third quarter, Nevada senior defensive end Dontay Moch moved into a tie for third all-time at Nevada in career tackles for loss. Moch now has 42.0 TFLs, which is tied with Jorge Cordova (2000-03).
FIRSTS: Redshirt freshman kicker
Anthony Martinez had a stellar night, connecting on all six extra points and hitting all three of his field goal attempts – the first attempts of his career.
Additionally, redshirt freshman running back Stefphon Jefferson made a strong debut with a 21-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.
ET CETERA: Colorado State won the toss and deferred to the second half … Nevada received the opening kickoff and CSU defended the north goal … The win gives Nevada its first 2-0 start since 1995 … Colin Kaepernick moved out of a tie with Fred Gatlin (1989-92) in career touchdown passes as he now has 65 in his career and is third all-time … Vai Taua is now 10th all-time at Nevada in career rushing attempts with 449 as he moved past Zeke Moore, who had 443 from 1990-93 … Safety Marlon Johnson made his first career start.
QUARTERBACK CLUB: The Nevada football team’s Quarterback Club Luncheons with Wolf Pack head coach Chris Ault will begin on Monday, Sept. 13 at the Peppermill Casino in Reno. Ault will review last week's game and go over game film at each game. He will also introduce players from the team and hold a question and answer session with the fans. The luncheons are open to the public. Doors at the Peppermill will open at 11:30 a.m. and the luncheon program begins at noon. Luncheon cost is $17 at the door. The room will be announced the day of the luncheon. The 2010 Quarterback Club Luncheons will be held each Monday following Nevada football games with luncheons scheduled for Sept. 13, 20, 27; Oct. 4, 11, 18; and Nov. 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29.
NEXT UP: The Wolf Pack will stay at home for the final game of a three-game homestand to start the season. Nevada will welcome the Cal Bears to Mackay Stadium for the first time ever as the teams will play Friday night at 7:05 p.m. on ESPN2.
