Box Score RENO, Nev. - The University of Nevada (5-2) volleyball team defeated Northern Arizona (4-4) 3-1 in its first match of the Wolf Pack Invitational at the Virginia Street Gym Friday afternoon. The Wolf Pack lost the first set 25-22 but took the next three by scores of 25-14, 25-22 and 25-13 to improve to 5-2 on the season while the Lumberjacks dropped to 4-4. In the first match of the day Pacific (5-1) knocked off #24 Arizona (5-2) 3-1.
Today's second session has Pacific playing Northern Arizona at 5 p.m. and Nevada takes on #24 Arizona at 7 p.m.
There were seven ties and three lead changes in set one before NAU won 25-22. With the set tied a 16-16 NAU scored the next four points and Nevada was unable to recover falling in the first frame. The Pack hit .096 and the Lumberjacks .163 in set one.
In set two Nevada used a 7-1 run to break a 9-9 tie and cruised the 25-14 victory to even the match at one set apiece. Senior Lindsay Baldwin closed out the victory with a kill off a pass from setter Tatiana Santiago. The Pack hit .385 and held NAU to a negative .037 attack percentage.
Set three was tied at 9-9 and the Pack slowly built a six-point cushion at 20-14 but NAU rallied to make it close down the stretch before Nevada held on for the 25-22 victory. With the win Nevada held a 2-1 advantage in the match. Sophomore Janelle Batista had the final kill of the set on an assist from Santiago. Nevada hit .243 and the Lumberjacks .135.
Nevada jumped to a 13-6 lead in set four and went on to win easily 25-13 to take the match 3-1. The Pack's attack percentage slipped to .194 while NAU once again hit worse at negative .029.
Senior outside hitter Kylie Harrington led four Nevada players in double figure kills with 13 and added 13 digs to post her third double-double of the season. Baldwin finished with 11 kills while Batista and junior Erin Garvey added 10 each. Santiago dished out a match-high 41 assists. Senior libero Nicole Link had a season-high 23 digs while freshman Grace Anxo added 15.
Niki Small topped NAU with eight kills. Setter Kelli Dallmann finished with 28 assists and 13 digs to record a double-double. Anna Gott totaled a match-high 26 digs while Kelly Stevenson and Lexie Schroeder had 12 and 11 respectively.
For the match Nevada hit .207 and held NAU to a .070 attack percentage. The Pack totaled 13 blocks and the Lumberjacks five. Baldwin led Nevada with eight blocks, one solo and seven assisted in the match.
