Box Score RENO, Nev. - The University of Nevada (5-3) volleyball team fell to #24 Arizona (6-2) 3-1 on Friday night at the Virginia Street Gym in the Wolf Pack Invitational being sponsored by Ramada and Best Western Airport Plaza. The Wolf Pack won the first set 26-24 then dropped the next three by scores of 25-10, 25-15 and 25-13. The loss snapped a four-match win streak and leaves the Pack 5-3 on the season while the Wildcats improved to 6-2.
Pacific went 2-0 on day one of the tournament downing Arizona 3-1 and Northern Arizona 3-0. Nevada defeated NAU 3-1 in its first match of the day and along with the Wildcats is 1-1 after Friday's play. The Lumberjacks are 0-2. NAU and UA play the first match tomorrow at noon followed by Pacific and Nevada a 2 p.m.
There were 12 ties and seven lead changes in the first set before the Pack scored the 26-24 first set victory. Senior outside hitter Kylie Harrington served the final two points of the set. Nevada hit .139 and the Wildcats .171 in the set.
The second set was all Arizona as they jumped to a 13-6 lead and never trailed in winning 25-10 to even the match a one set each. Nevada hit zero and UA was outstanding at .565.
Set three was back and forth early with the 10th tie of the set coming at 11-11 but a 10-0 Wildcat run put the set out of reach as they won 25-15 to take a 2-1 advantage in the match. The Pack hit negative .067 and UA .212.
The Wildcats closed out the match with a 25-13 set four victory and 3-1 match win. The Pack were unable to get going hitting .103 in the final set while UA hit .476.
Harrington led the Pack with 15 kills while libero Nicole Link had 13 digs. Setter Tatiana Santiago finished with 30 assists on the night.
Whitney Dosty and Cursty Jackson topped UA with 18 and 13 kills respectively. Setter Paige Weber posted a match-high 42 assist. Candace Nicholsen and Tiffany Owens had 14 and 12 digs to top the Wildcats.
Nevada hit .053 in the match compared to .321 for UA. The Wildcats also dominated the blocking with a 15-5 advantage.
