Nevada Opens 2010 Season At Missouri Tournament

The University of Nevada volleyball team under the direction of 14th year head coach Devin Scruggs will open the 2010 season at the Tiger Invitational in Columbia, Mo. this weekend.   The Wolf Pack takes on Utah Valley on Friday at 4:00 p.m. central.  Saturday the Pack play the host Missouri Tigers at noon and close out the opening weekend versus  Maryland at 4:00 p.m. central.
The 2010 squad returns 10 letterwinners and five starters from last year’s team that went 11-20 overall and tied for fourth in the Western Athletic Conference with a 7-9 record.   Heading the list of returners is first-team All-WAC selection Kylie Harrington and second-team honoree Lindsay Baldwin.  Both seniors were named to the WAC Coaches’ Preseason Team each of the last two seasons.  WAC Freshman Team selection Elissa Ji returns for her second season.
Libero Nicole Link and outside hitter/defensive specialist Jessica Daum join Harrington and Baldwin to give the Pack four seniors on the roster of 15.  The junior class includes a pair of starters in right side hitter Erin Garvey and middle blocker Brittni Yates.  Junior setter Tatiana Santiago is expected to step into the starting spot in her third year in the program.
Defensive specialist Kelly Chang and middle blocker/right side hitter Janelle Batista should be key contributors in their second year in the program.   The freshman class is led by local twins Grace and Sofia Anxo who will press the veterans for playing time in year one.  Tessa Lea`ea, Dana Holt and Brianna Heinen round out the freshmen class and all should see action in their first season at Nevada.
