RENO, Nev. - Nevada senior quarterback Colin Kaepernick has been named to the Watch List for the Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award for the second straight season. The Watch List was announced Wednesday by the Davey O'Brien Foundation and the award is presented annually to the best college quarterback.
Kaepernick has also been named to the Watch List for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, which is presented annually to the nation's top senior quarterback. Kaepernick is one of 22 players on the Watch List, which can be found at www.goldenarmfoundation.com.
Texas quarterback Colt McCoy won both the O'Brien Award and the Golden Arm Award in 2009.
Kaepernick, a senior from Turlock, Calif., is entering his fourth season as the starter at Nevada. He's thrown for at least 2,000 yards in each of his first three seasons at Nevada. He has 7,076 career passing yards with 61 touchdowns and just 16 interceptions. He's also rushed for 2,906 yards and 39 touchdowns in his career and Kaepernick is coming off back-to-back 1,000-yard rushing seasons.
Kaepernick is one of 15 starters returning for Nevada, which opens its 13-game schedule on Sept. 2 against Eastern Washington. Season tickets are available by calling 348-PACK.
