RENO, Nev. - Former point guard Mikail Price graduated from Nevada in May of 2008 with a degree in general studies and a double minor in communications and ethnic studies.
After graduation the Fremont, Calif., native thought about becoming a dental hygienist but realized she couldn't stay away from basketball.
"I was thinking of going into dental hygiene because it is a very interesting field to me, but once again I got hooked back on basketball," Price said. "It's inevitable that I can't stay away from it."
She spent last season as an assistant coach at Foothill College in Los Altos Hills, Calif. Price played her first two years of college basketball at Foothill College before transferring to Nevada.
"Last summer the head coach at the junior college I attended (Foothill College) asked if I would like to be on staff for the team," Price said. "I was very excited upon hearing that she would like me to be a part of the team and last season was my first season as an assistant coach. I loved it. It showed me that I am still in love with the game and I could never do without basketball in my life."
In addition to her time coaching at Foothill College, Price who played for Nevada from 2006-08, is working for Recreation Plus, a non-profit organization that provides low-to-no cost instruction to student of all-ages.
While at Nevada, Price played in 62 games with 27 starts during her two-year career with the Wolf Pack. She averaged 6.4 points per game during her career and recorded 77 assists.
"My favorite memory from my time at Nevada was my senior year in the game we played New Mexico State at home and won," she said. "We had our biggest crowd of the year and it was one of the most intense games we played that season. It really brought our team together and boosted our confidence. It was a very exciting day."
As for her future, Price is looking into getting a masters degree and continuing to pursue a college coaching career.
"My plans for the future are to continue working for Recreation Plus and to continue coaching. I also have plans to get my masters soon, I just need to decide what I should get it in," she said. "I have been speaking with the head coach here at Foothill and I feel that coaching is something I want to pursue. I feel that I could be a great head coach in the near future. I might even be Nevada's coach one day!"
"Since I have graduated life has taken me in a pretty good direction. You have to make many decisions and I also came to realize that these decisions don't have to be forever decisions," Price said. "I have talked to many older people about their life experiences and they all tell me that I don't need to be stuck doing any one thing for the rest of my life. I want to be as productive in society as I can."
