CHANDLER, Ariz. – Led by junior Lauren Hernandez, the University of Nevada women’s golf team finished in fourth place at the Cowgirl Classic. The 24-team tournament is hosted by the University of Wyoming and held in Chandler, Ariz., at the par 72, 6108 yard Ocotillo Golf Resort, April 5-6.
Nevada carded a three round total of 37-over 901 (304-294-303) to finish in fourth place. University of Texas, El Paso took first for the tournament by carding one-over 298 in round three to finish at 19-over 594 (299-295-289). Tied for second was Colorado State (294-312-291) and Northern Arizona (301-302-294) with a three round total of 33-over 897. Portland State came one stroke behind the Wolf Pack, in fifth place, at 38-over 902 (295-304-303).
Hernandez carded two-under 70 in round three to lead the Wolf Pack after day two and finish tied for third at three-under 219 (75-74-70). Freshman Louise Yi followed Hernandez in 12th place at seven-over 223 (74-72-77). Sophomore Jamie Yam finished in a five-way tie for 19th carding 11-over 227 (78-75-74) while Eugenia Guerra finished tied for 35th at 16-over 232 (77-73-80). Senior Pamela Abreu (83-82-82=247) rounded out the Wolf Pack coming in 91st, respectively.
Stephanie Kim of Northern Arizona took the win overall carding even par- 216 (68-74-74), a two-stroke advantage over Portland State’s Britney Yada (72-73-73=218).
Next up for the Wolf Pack is the only home tournament for the spring season. Nevada will host UC Davis, Friday April 9, 2010 at Red Hawk Golf Club.
