RENO, Nev. - Junior Tahnee Robinson was named MVP at the 2010 University of Nevada women's basketball banquet celebration Sunday afternoon at the Peppermill.
Second-year head coach Jane Albright and her staff honored the 2009-10 team at the annual banquet celebration in front of parents, fans and boosters who were in attendance. The afternoon included a lunch prepared by the Peppermill, a highlight video, a presentation of the WAC All-Academic awards, recognition of the scout team and support staff and the presentation of team awards.
Robinson, who was named the WAC Newcomer of the Year and to the All-WAC First Team, led Nevada in scoring this year averaging 16.1 points per game. She recorded 21 double-digit scoring games in 24 games and eight 20-point games during her first year at Nevada.
Additional awards were given out at the banquet included: STUPH (servanthood, trustworthy, unity, passion and humility, women's basketball core values) - Marianne Lombardi; free throw percentage - Johnna Ward (82.7 percent); academic excellence - Johnna Ward (sociology); rebounding excellence: Kayla Williams (7.3 rebounds per game); defensive excellence: Shavon Moore (All-WAC Second Team, 7.0 rebounds per game, WAC All-Defensive Team); most improved - Nicole Williams (7.6 points per game in 2009-10; 1.2 points per game in 2008-09); community service - Marissa Hammond; and captains - Shavon Moore and Marianne Lombardi.
Nevada ended the year 17-16 under second-year head coach Jane Albright. The Pack finished the year 10-6 in WAC play which tied the program record for conference wins in a year. Nevada also made a postseason appearance, just the second in program history, playing at Wyoming in the First Round of the WNIT.
