MESA, Ariz. – Led by freshman Eugenia Guerra, the University of Nevada women’s golf team is in seventh place after the first round of the 2010 Western Athletic Conference Championship, being held Monday-Wednesday, April 19-21 at the par-71, 6,146-yard Longbow Golf Club in Mesa, Ariz.
Nevada carded 40-over 324 on Monday and is in seventh place heading into the second round. Defending champion San Jose State shot 20-over 304 to take the lead with one-stroke advantage over Hawai‘i (305) in second place. Fresno State follows in third place at 306 and Idaho sits in fourth place with 308. Boise State (311), New Mexico (312) and Nevada (324) round out the field after round one.
For the Wolf Pack, Guerra carded seven-over 78 and stands tied for 16th while sophomore Jamie Yam is tied for 25th at 10-over 81. Freshman Louise Yi shot 11-over 82 to tie for 29th while junior Lauren Hernandez and sophomore Alex Borcherts tied for 33rd carding 12-over 83.
Erika Lundberg of Hawai’i leads individually at one-over 72, only a one-stroke advantage over Idaho’s Amanda Jacobs (73) in second.
The WAC Championship continues on Tuesday and Wednesday with tee times starting at 7:30 a.m. each round. Nevada will tee off starting at 7:30 a.m. Pacific Time on Tuesday and will play with New Mexico State in the second round, while the final-round tee times for Wednesday will be determined by results.
