RENO, Nev. - Nevada student-athletes Jennifer Boswell and Mike Bethea have been named All-American Strength and Conditioning Athletes of the Year by the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
The award recognizes student-athletes' dedication to strength training and conditioning and was given to 232 collegiate athletes from 106 schools this year.
Boswell is a senior track and field athlete from Sisters, Ore., who competes in multiple events, including the high jump, long jump, 800 meters, shot put and javelin. A Western Athletic Conference All-Academic selection, she finished ninth in the pentathlon at the 2010 WAC Indoor Championships in February.
"Named to the WAC All-Academic team, Jen has brought that same dedication and work ethic to the weight room," Wolf Pack assistant strength and conditioning coach Mark Lamoreaux said. "She is a program girl: self-motivated, energetic, and disciplined, the ideal athlete to work with and have around. Jen's dedication to preparing her body has paid off with her competing in both the indoor and outdoor championships with her senior outdoor season still to come."
Bethea is a senior middle linebacker from Carlsbad, Calif., who came to Nevada from Palomar College in San Marcos, Calif. He started all 13 games in 2009 and finished second on the team with 70 tackles.
"Mike is one of the hardest working student athletes at Nevada," Lamoreaux said. "Mike's unspoken leadership both in the weight room and on the field drives him to be the best he can while pushing others around him to do the same. His commitment to excellence on the field and in the classroom is unmatched."
The All-American Athlete of the Year Award program is in its 32nd year and is sponsored by Power Systems, Inc., a fitness product leader in Knoxville, Tenn.
"The advantages of strength training and conditioning cannot be denied in collegiate athletics," said Robert Jursnick, executive director of the National Strength and Conditioning Association. "These student-athletes attest to this understanding and are to be applauded for their hard work and dedication."
