The Nevada volleyball team will host a tournament Saturday, April 17, 2010 at the Virginia Street Gym as they continue their spring training and competition season.

“We have less than three weeks left and our team is very much looking forward to seeing some new faces across the net,” said Devin Scruggs, head coach of the Nevada volleyball team.

Up until now, the team has not been able to compete with outside opponents.  During the spring, only four competition dates are allowed.  Most of the focus is on conditioning, lifting weights, and developing individual and team skills.

“I am extremely pleased with the improvement I have seen so far and am looking forward to being able to face some outside competition,” Scruggs said of the upcoming weekend.  “Although we would like to win all our matches, our focus is to improve and give everyone an opportunity to get on the court.”

The tournament Saturday will include teams from surrounding areas, including Sacramento State, College of Southern Idaho, San Francisco State and Chico State.

Play will begin at 9 a.m. with Nevada facing off against San Francisco State.  Nevada will then play College of Southern Idaho at 10 a.m., Sacramento State at 1 p.m. and Chico State at 2 p.m.
