RENO, Nev - The brackets are set for the 2010 Western Athletic Conference Basketball Tournament, which will be held Wednesday-Saturday, March 10-13 at Lawlor Events Center. The winners of the WAC Tournament will earn the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Nevada's women's basketball team has earned the No. 3 seed and will open WAC Tournament play against sixth-seeded Boise State at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, March 10 in the quarterfinals.
Led by WAC Newcomer of the Year and junior guard Tahnee Robinson, the Wolf Pack has turned in a 16-14 overall record and finished third in the WAC with a 10-6 league mark this season. Robinson became the first Nevada player to be named WAC Newcomer of the Year and was named to the All-WAC first team after leading the team with 16.2 points per game. Junior forward Shavon Moore earned second-team All-WAC honors and WAC All-Defensive accolades after averaging 11.0 points and 6.7 rebounds per contest.
The women's tournament gets underway on Wednesday with the quarterfinal games set for 12 and 2:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. The semifinals will be played at 12 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. on Friday, while the championship game is set for 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 13.
The second-seeded Wolf Pack men's basketball team will open WAC Tournament play at 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 11, playing host to seventh-seeded Idaho.
Winners of its last two games and six of its previous eight contests, Nevada finished the regular season with a 19-11 record and finished in a tie for second with an 11-5 WAC record. The Wolf Pack is led by WAC Player of the Year and sophomore Luke Babbitt who is ranked in the top 30 in the country in scoring and rebounding with 21.7 points and 9.3 boards per game. Junior guard and second-team All-WAC selection Armon Johnson leads the WAC with 5.6 assists per game and is also adding 16.0 points per contest.
The WAC men's tournament starts on Thursday with quarterfinals games at 12 and 2:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. The semifinals will be played at 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Friday, while the championship game is set for 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 13.
