Fresno, Calif. – Led by junior Lauren Hernandez, the University of Nevada women’s golf team is ninth at the spring season opener, the Fresno State Lexus Classic. The 14-team tournament is held at Copper River C.C. Monday-Tuesday, March 1-2.
The Wolf Pack played 36 holes on Monday and carded 35-over 611 to end in ninth place. Leading the Fresno State Lexus Classic after day one is UC Davis at six-over 582; San Jose trails Davis by three strokes at nine-over 585. Host, Fresno State and Santa Clara are tied for third at 21-over 597 while UC Irvine closes out top five at 27-over 603.
Junior Lauren Hernandez shot a one-over 73 in Monday’s second round to end day one tied for at six-over 150 (77-73). Freshman Louise Yi is tied for 31st at eight-over 152 (78-74), a two-stoke advantage over sophomore Jamie Yam. In round one, Yam carded one-over 73 to add to a two-round total of 10-over 154 (73-81). Freshman Eugenia Guerra is tied for 50th at 14-over 158(78-80) and senior Pamela Abreu rounds out the Pack in a tie for 54th (81-78=159).
Miki Ueoka of University of Santa Clara shot a three-under 69 in Monday’s first round to take the lead for the tournament individually at three-under 141 (69-72).
The final round of the Fresno State Classic begins Tuesday with a shotgun start of 8 a.m. Pacific Time.
