RENO, Nev. - The University of Nevada and the Reno-Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority (RSCVA) will partner with local companies and governmental agencies in the Champions of the WAC Tournament program, Nevada Director of Athletics Cary Groth and RSCVA President and CEO Ellie Oppenheim announced Monday.
The Champions of the WAC Tournament program will give local companies and government agencies the opportunity to purchase discounted tickets for their employees to attend the 2010 Western Athletic Conference Basketball Tournament, set for March 10-13 at Lawlor Events Center on the campus of the University of Nevada.
Participants in the program can purchase blocks of single-session tickets for their employees for Nevada's opening session games at a sharply reduced rate discount of $10 per ticket (minimum purchase of 15 tickets). With the discount, tickets will cost as low as $15 each for the men's basketball games and $10 for the women's games. Each single-session ticket for the WAC Tournament entitles fans to view two full men's or women's games.
Any local company or organization in Northern Nevada is eligible to become a Champion of the WAC Tournament.
Tickets for employers wishing to become Champions of the WAC Tournament are on sale now by calling or emailing Meredith Montoya at (775) 682-6905 or mmontoya@unr.edu.
The Wolf Pack women will open play in the WAC Tournament at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, March 10, while the Nevada men will play their quarterfinal game at 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 11.
"The University of Nevada and the RSCVA are privileged to host the WAC Tournament. It is a great opportunity to give our basketball teams home-court advantage as they attempt to win a conference championship and earn a berth in the NCAA Tournament," Groth said. "Hosting the WAC Tournament is also an opportunity to showcase our great community, and the Champions of the WAC Tournament program will hopefully make it affordable for more people in our community to be a part of this special event."
"Hosting the WAC Tournament is a source of great pride for our community and a chance to show the thousands of fans traveling to Reno, Sparks and Tahoe all the things that make this region such a great place to live and work," Oppenheim said. "The Champions of the WAC Tournament program is our attempt to give employers in our region a way to thank their employees who are all doing more with less and celebrate the pride we have in our community."
