RENO, Nev. - Shavon Moore and Kayla Williams each recorded a double-double and Tahnee Robinson added 13 points at the University of Nevada women's basketball team beat San Jose State 72-48 Saturday afternoon in front of a season-high 1,572 fans at Lawlor Events Center.
With the win Nevada improved to 13-10 overall (7-2 WAC) while the Spartans fell to 5-17 overall (1-8 WAC)
After the Pack jumped out to a quick 9-2 lead and held the Spartans without a field goal until the 13:29 mark of the first half, San Jose State responded and took a 10-9 lead with 10:58 left in the half.
Brittany Woodard broke a 24-24 tie with 1:18 left to play and a pair of free throws by Moore put Nevada up by four, 28-24, with eight seconds left but the Spartans pulled to within two, 28-26, at the half.
In the second half, Nevada used a 26-3 run over nearly 12 minutes to pull ahead 65-43 with 3:16 minutes left in the game. The Pack extended its lead to 24 points with 25 seconds left in a jumper by Woodard as Nevada went on to post the 72-48 win.
"I thought the crowd gave us a lot of energy," head coach Jane Albright said. "In the first half we missed our shots but I am pleased with today's effort."
Moore ended the game with 15 points and 10 rebounds for her ninth career double-double and fourth this year. K. Williams scored 13 points and added 10 rebounds for her fourth career double-double of the year and of her career. This marks the second time this year the Pack has had two players record double-doubles in a game. K. Williams and Nicole Williams each recorded a double-double against Washington State.
Robinson finished with 13 points while Johnna Ward recorded nine.
As a team the Pack shot 45.3 percent (24-of-53) from the floor while the Spartans shot 26.6 percent (17-of-64). Nevada recorded 14 turnovers in the game and just two turnovers in the second half. The Pack also recorded a season-high 10 blocks.
Nevada will play at Boise State on Wednesday at 6 p.m. PT.
