RENO, Nev. (AP) -- Chris Banchero scored 33 points as the Seattle Pacific Falcons beat the Nevada Wolf Pack in an exhibition game Saturday night at Lawlor Events Center in front of 2,984 fans.
The Division II Falcons, now 2-0, also got 17 points from Andy Poling and 10 from Ryan Sweet. The Falcons, which beat Eastern Washington, 87-82, on Tuesday night, led the majority of the second half.
Nevada, which opens its regular season Nov. 13 at home against Montana, got 28 points from freshman point guard Deonte Burton and 15 from freshman shooting guard Jordan Finn.
The Wolf Pack had two brief leads in the second half. Malik Story’s 3-pointer put Nevada on top, 40-38, with 18:25 to go and three free throws by Burton gave them a 70-69 lead with 5:23 to play.
Scott Morse hit a jumper for Seattle Pacific for a 71-70 lead with 4:35 to play and the Falcons never trailed the rest of the game.
Banchero, who fouled out with 19 seconds to play, hit two free throws with 22 seconds to go for an 80-77 lead. He also had a layup for a 77-74 lead with 1:38 to play.
Nevada pulled within 78-77 on two free throws by Burton with 35 seconds to play.
Seattle Pacific, which beat Eastern Washington, 87-82, on Tuesday, took a 36-32 halftime lead as Banchero scored 17 points, eight in the final two minutes.
Banchero drilled a 3-pointer for a 14-13 lead with 9:15 to play in the first half. He also had a layup for a 30-24 lead with 1:40 to play in the half.
Nevada, which outrebounded the Falcons, 45-31, shot just 9-of-26 (.346) in the opening half and .410 (25-of-61) for the game. The Wolf Pack, though, turned the ball over 16 times, five by Story.
Burton led the Wolf Pack in the first half with 12 points. The freshman point guard converted a three-point play to tie the game at 24-24 with 5:07 to play in the first half.
Nevada’s last lead of the opening half came on a 3-pointer by Story (8 points) with 6:15 to play.
