Sixth Seed Wolf Pack Take On Utah State The University of Nevada (13-16, 7-9 WAC) volleyball team earned the sixth seed in the 2010 Western Athletic Conference Tournament that starts Monday at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas. The Wolf Pack will take on third seed Utah State (21-8, 9-7 WAC) on Monday at 5 p.m. The two squads split the two regular season matches with each winning at home.
Monday’s winner takes on second seed New Mexico State (18-12, 12-4 WAC) on Tuesday at 5 p.m. The championship match is set for Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
Link Moves Into Second, Harrington Tied For Fifth, Santiago Records 1700th Assist
Senior libero Nicole Link had a career-high 34 digs in the Pack’s last match at LA Tech which gave her 1,451 for her career and she now ranks second on the Pack career list.
Senior outside hitter Kylie Harrington’s play at LA Tech has moved her into a tie for fifth in career points with Carly Sorensen (2003-06) as both have 1,367.5. Harrington also ranks sixth in kills with 1,227, just in front of Sorensen.
Junior setter Tatiana Santiago dished out her 1,700th assist at LA Tech and her 1,730 is the ninth best total in school history.
Senior middle blocker Lindsay Baldwin ranks in the top 10 in five categories at Nevada. Baldwin is second in block assists (434), third in total blocks (481) and ninth in solo blocks (47). She is fourth in points with 1,421 and eighth in career attack percentage at .251. She became the 11th player in school history to reach 1,000 career kills earlier this season and currently has 1,096.
Team Notes: Nevada and Utah State have not met previously in the WAC Tournament...Nevada has lost its last five matches which is the second time this season the Wolf Pack have dropped five in a row...Nevada (7-9) is the sixth seed in the WAC Tournament in Las Vegas...Nevada has qualified for the WAC Tournament each season since it was started in 2001... Nevada won its first true road match of the season downing Boise State 3-1 on Oct. 7...the Pack is 9-5 at home, 3-8 on the road and 1-3 at neutral sites...the Pack won the Nevada (Sept 3-4) and Wolf Pack Invitationals (Sept. 10-11) that were played at home in the Virginia Street Gym...Nevada had its season-high four-match win streak snapped in a 3-1 loss to #24 Arizona, Sept. 3...Nevada was picked to finish seventh in the Preseason Western Athletic Conference Coaches’ Poll...the Pack rank fifth in hitting (.193%), fourth in assists (11.78 aps), sixth in blocking (2.09 bps), eighth in digs (13.48 dps), seventh in opponent hitting percentage (.219%), fourth in kills (12.83 kps) and seventh in service aces (1.02 saps) in the WAC...in WAC play Nevada ranks third in hitting (.223%), third in assists (13.16 aps), seventh in blocking (2.00 bps), third in digs (14.39 dps), fifth in opponent hitting percentage (.217%), second in kills (14.15 kps) and is sixth in service aces (.98 saps).
Player Notes: Senior libero Nicole Link had a career-high 34 digs at LA Tech on Nov. 18 which is also the third best single match total in Nevada history...senior outside hitter Kylie Harrington had 23 kills in the Pack’s 3-1 win at Fresno State on Oct. 28 and senior middle blocker Lindsay Baldwin had 23 kills in the Pack’s 3-2 loss to Idaho on Nov. 4 which is the high by a Nevada player this season...the 23 kills was a career-high for Baldwin and two off Harrington’s career best of 25...Harrington has led or tied for the team lead in kills in 17-of-29 matches this season while Baldwin has accomplished the feat eight times...Harrington has produced a team-high eight double-doubles...freshman outside hitter Grace Anxo had a double-double in her first collegiate match vs. Utah Valley on Aug. 27 with 12 kills and 11 digs then added a second vs. FS on Oct. 2 with 15 kills and 11 digs...Anxo led Nevada with a career-high 18 kills in the Wolf Pack’s 3-2 victory at San Jose State, Oct. 30...junior setter Tatiana Santiago has six double-doubles on the season with one being a 64 assist, 13 dig outing vs. Idaho on Nov. 4...Santiago dished out a career-high 64 assists vs. Idaho on Nov. 4...Santiago became the ninth setter in school history to reach the 1,700 assist in a career...Harrington recorded her 1,000th career kill vs. UNLV (Sept 7) and senior Lindsay Baldwin posted her 1,000th at Fresno State (Oct. 28) as the duo became the 10th and 11th players in school history to reach the mark...Baldwin (8 ba), Anxo (1 bs, 7 ba) and sophomore middle blocker Janelle Batista (8 ba) all had eight blocks in the Pack’s 3-2 victory over Notre Dame (Sept. 4)...Baldwin surpassed 400 career total and block assists this season...Baldwin’s nine blocks (1 bs, 8 ba) at UNLV (Sept. 27) and vs. New Mexico State (Oct. 21) are a Nevada season high...junior right side hitter Erin Garvey produced a career-high 15 kills at Boise State on Oct. 7...sophomore Janelle Batista totaled a career-high 11 kills in Nevada’s 3-1 win over Utah State on Oct. 15...Santiago ranks fourth averaging 10.37 assists per set in the conference but in WAC only play is first with 11.69 per set...Harrington is fifth in kills (3.39 kps) and sixth in points (3.82 pps) per set in the conference but in WAC play is fourth in kills (3.75 kps) and fifth in points (4.20 pps)...Baldwin is eighth in hitting at .292 in the conference and sixth in WAC play with a .318 attack percentage...Baldwin ranks seventh in points (4.07 pps) and kills (3.44 kps) in WAC play and is 10th overall in the WAC in points at 3.48 per set and kills at 2.88 per...senior libero Nicole Link has led Nevada in digs 24 times this season...12 times Link has posted match-highs in digs...Link ranks sixth in the WAC averaging 3.97 digs per set and in WAC only matches at 4.20 per set...Harrington, Baldwin, Link and Santiago have started all 29 matches this season...reserve setter Dana Holt came off the bench at UNLV (Sept. 27) and nearly lead the Pack to a victory after they trailed 2-0 before falling 3-2 as she topped the team with 23 assists...freshman Brianna Heinen had a career-high 15 digs at Fresno State on Oct. 28.
Nevada Drops Season Finale At LA Tech
The University of Nevada volleyball team lost its final regular season match of the season falling 3-2 at Louisiana Tech. The Lady Techsters won the first set 25-21, set three 25-17 and the final set 15-11. The Wolf Pack took sets two and four 25-19 and 25-20 respectively.
Lindsay Baldwin led the Pack with 18 kills on the night. Outside hitter Kylie Harrington recorded her eighth double-double of the season with 13 kills and 17 digs. Brittni Yates had 12 kills off the bench. Setter Tatiana Santiago posted her sixth double-double of the year with 48 assists and 15 digs. Libero Nicole Link finished with a career-high 34 digs which is the third best single match total in school history.
