Nevada Hosts Two Matches This Week
The University of Nevada (13-11, 7-4 WAC) volleyball team will host a pair of Western Athletic Conference matches this week taking on Idaho (10-11, 5-5 WAC) on Thursday at 7 p.m. and Boise State (17-10, 4-7 WAC) on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. This will be the second meeting of the season with the Vandals and Broncos.
Idaho enters Thursday’s match with a 5-5 conference mark and are 10-11 overall. The match will feature the third place Wolf Pack at 7-4 and the fourth place Vandals. The Wolf Pack dropped the first meeting with Idaho back on Oct. 9, 3-1. Kylie Harrington led the way with 17 kills while setter Tatiana Santiago had 41 assists.  Nicole Link and Brianna Heinen had 14 and 12 digs respectively.
Nevada defeated Boise State 3-1 on Oct. 7 which was the first road win of the season for the Pack. Currently the Broncos are tied for sixth in the conference standings with a 4-7 record and are 17-10 overall. Erin Garvey and Harrington tied for match-high honors in the first meeting with 15 kills apiece. Lindsay Baldwin was the third player in double figures with 12 kills. Santiago finished with 53 assists and Link totaled 20 digs. Harrington added 13 digs and Santiago 11 as both produced double-doubles.
Baldwin Named WAC Player of the Week: Nevada senior middle blocker Lindsay Baldwin has been named Verizon Western Athletic Conference Volleyball Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 25-31. This is the first WAC Player of the Week honor of the season for Baldwin and the second of her career.
Baldwin, from Hillsborough, Calif. (Notre Dame Belmont HS), led Nevada to a pair of road wins at Fresno State and San Jose State last week. Baldwin averaged 3.67 kills, 1.00 blocks and 4.39 points per set while hitting an impressive .407. The road victories were just the second and third of the season for the Wolf Pack. On Thursday, Baldwin had a season-high 20 kills and hit .432 in the Pack's 3-1 victory at Fresno State. On Saturday, she totaled 13 kills and six blocks with a .370 attack percentage in a 3-2 win at San Jose State. She recorded her 1,000th kill during the match to become the 11th player in school history to reach the mark.
Team Notes: Nevada has won three matches in a row which is tied for the second longest win streak of the season with the high being four...Nevada currently sits in third placed in the WAC standings with a 7-4 record...Nevada won its first true road match of the season downing Boise State 3-1 on Oct. 7...Nevada snapped a season-high five-match losing skid defeating SJSU 3-0 on Sept. 30 which was also the first WAC win of the season...the Pack are 9-2 at home, 3-6 on the road and 1-3 at neutral sites...the Pack won the Nevada (Sept 3-4) and Wolf Pack Invitationals (Sept. 10-11) that were played at home in the Virginia Street Gym...Nevada had its season-high four-match win streak snapped in a 3-1 loss to #24 Arizona, Sept. 3...Nevada was picked to finish seventh in the Preseason Western Athletic Conference Coaches’ Poll...the Pack rank fifth in hitting (.198%), fourth in assists (11.63 aps), sixth in blocking (2.10 bps), eighth in digs (13.11 dps), seventh in opponent hitting percentage (.213%), fourth in kills (12.76 kps) and eighth in service aces (1.07 saps) in the WAC...in WAC play Nevada ranks third in hitting (.249%), third in assists (13.51 aps), sixth in blocking (1.99 bps), third in digs (14.02 dps), fourth in opponent hitting percentage (.202%), second in kills (14.63 kps) and fifth in service aces (1.05 saps).
Player Notes: Senior outside hitter Kylie Harrington had 23 kills in the Pack’s 3-1 win at Fresno State on Oct. 28 which is the high by a Nevada player this season and two off her career-high of 25 set at FS last season...Harrington has led or tied for the team lead in kills in 15-of-24 matches this season...Harrington has a team-high five double-doubles with the most recent being a 20 kill, 12 dig outing in a 3-1 win over Utah State on Oct. 15...freshman outside hitter Grace Anxo produced a double-double in her first collegiate match vs. Utah Valley on Aug. 27 with 12 kills and 11 digs then added a second vs. FS on Oct. 2 with 15 kills and 11 digs...Anxo led Nevada with a career-high 18 kills in the Wolf Pack’s 3-2 victory at San Jose State, Oct. 30...junior setter Tatiana Santiago has four double-doubles on the season with last one being a 57 assist, 10 dig outing at Fresno State on Oct. 28...Santiago dished out a career-high 59 assists vs. FS on Oct. 2...Santiago became the 10th setter in school history to reach the 1,000 assist mark in her career this season recorded her 1500th last week...Harrington recorded her 1,000th career kill vs. UNLV (Sept 7) and senior Lindsay Baldwin posted her 1,000th at Fresno State (Oct. 28) as the duo became the 10th and 11th players in school history to reach the mark...Baldwin (8 ba), Anxo (1 bs, 7 ba) and sophomore middle blocker Janelle Batista (8 ba) all had eight blocks in the Pack’s 3-2 victory over Notre Dame (Sept. 4)...Baldwin surpassed 400 career total and block assists this season...Baldwin had 20 kills in the Pack’s 3-1 win at Fresno State on Oct. 28 which is one off her career-high of 21 set against San Jose State on Sept. 25, 2008... Baldwin’s nine blocks (1 bs, 8 ba) at UNLV (Sept. 27) and vs. New Mexico State (Oct. 21) are a Nevada season high...junior right side hitter Erin Garvey produced a career-high 15 kills at Boise State on Oct. 7 and her .318 attack percentage in WAC play is ninth in the conference...sophomore Janelle Batista totaled a career-high 11 kills in Nevada’s 3-1 win over Utah State on Oct. 15...Santiago ranks fourth averaging 10.17 assists per set in the conference but in WAC only play is first with 11.90 per set...Harrington is fifth in kills (3.39 kps) and sixth in points (3.84 pps) per set in the conference but in WAC play is third in kills (3.93 kps) and fourth in points (4.43 pps)...Baldwin is eighth in hitting at .297 in the conference and sixth in WAC play with a .343 attack percentage...Baldwin ranks ninth in points (3.93 pps) and seventh kills (3.29 kps) in WAC play...Harrington is seventh in WAC action averaging .27 service aces per set...senior libero Nicole Link has led Nevada in digs 19 times this season with a season-high 23 dig effort vs. Northern Arizona (Sept. 3)...eight times Link has posted match-highs in digs...Link ranks sixth in the WAC averaging 3.78 digs per set and sixth in WAC only matches at 3.88 per set...Harrington, Baldwin, Link and Santiago have started all 24 matches this season...reserve setter Dana Holt came off the bench at UNLV (Sept. 27) and nearly lead the Pack to a victory after they trailed 2-0 before falling 3-2 as she topped the team with 23 assists...freshman Brianna Heinen had a career-high 15 digs at Fresno State on Oct. 28.
Nevada Wins Two On The Road
The University of Nevada volleyball team won two Western Athletic Conference road matches last week downing Fresno State 3-1 on Thursday and San Jose State 3-2 on Saturday. The Wolf Pack won both meetings with the Bulldogs and Spartans this season going 4-0 against the two California schools.
At FS the Pack won the first two sets 25-19 and 27-25 lost set three 25-19 then took the final set 25-23 to win the match. Kylie Harrington led the way with a match and team season-high 23 kills. Lindsay Baldwin recorded a season-high 20 kills in the match. Setter Tatiana Santiago had 57 assists and 10 digs to post her fourth double-double of the season. Nicole Link and Brianna Heinen had 16 and 15 digs respectively.
In the SJSU match the Pack scored victories in the first two sets 25-16 and 25-22 but stumbled in the next two falling 25-23 and 25-19 before escaping with a 15-11 victory in the deciding fifth game. Grace Anxo led four Nevada players in double figures with 18 kills. Harrington and Baldwin totaled 13 kills each while Erin Garvey had 10 in the match. Santiago finished with 56 assists and Link posted a match-high 19 digs.
Pack Players Climbing Career Lists, Baldwin Records 1,000th Kill, Santiago 1,500 Assist:
Four Pack players are current ranked in the top 10 in various career lists and continue to climb the charts this season. Senior middle blocker Lindsay Baldwin became the 11th player in school history to record 1,000 kills last week at Fresno State on Oct. 28 and currently has 1,021. Baldwin also ranks fifth in career points with 1,333.5, is third with 417 block assists, is third with 462 total blocks, 10th with 45 solo blocks and is eighth with a .250 attack percentage.
Senior outside hitter Kylie Harrington is ranked in the Pack career top 10 in two categories. Harrington is sixth with 1,293 points and 10th with 1,159 career kills. She needs 14 kills to move past Kelly Martin (1991-94) into ninth. On Sept. 27 at UNLV she became just the 10th Nevada player to reach 1,000 career kills.
Another senior Nicole Link recorded her 1300th dig this season and currently ranks third with 1,354 in three plus seasons.
Junior setter Tatiana Santiago dished out her 1,000th career assist in the Hawai’i match on Sept. 24 becoming the 10th setter in Pack history to reach the lofty mark. Santiago recorded her 1,500th assist at SJSU on Oct. 30 and currently has 1,505 assists in two plus seasons.
