Box Score SACRAMENTO, Calif. - A pair of University of Nevada players scored 20-plus points en route to a 98-72 victory at Sacramento State on Wednesday at The Nest. With the win, Nevada improves its perfect record to 3-0 while Sac State drops to 0-3.
It was a track meet from the tip as the two teams raced each other from one end of the court to the other. After Sac State took an early lead, Nevada quickly began running up a significant lead. The Pack eventually built a 21-point lead with 5:30 left in the first half, off the backs of its seniors.
Tahnee Robinson and Johnna Ward got in the groove early, each connecting on three three-pointers with Robinson hitting 3-5 and Ward 3-4 from beyond the arc in the half. As a team Nevada hit 8 threes in the half for 57.1 percent shooting. The early pressure from the Hornets did bother the Pack early as it forced 14 turnovers with seven steals but was unable to take advantage scoring just 11 points off turnovers.
Robinson led Nevada with for the third-straight game scoring 25 points shooting 10-18 from the field with 5 threes, again tying her career-best for threes in a game for the fourth time. Fellow senior captain Shavon Moore tied her career best with 21 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Ward would finish the game with the nine points she scored in the first half with her three, three-pointers.
As a team, Nevada shot 47.7 percent, going 10-24 from beyond the arc. The mark of 10 threes comes up just one shy of a school record that has been in place since 2002. After taking 53 boards against Pepperdine on Sunday, Nevada had 62 over the Hornets' 38, with five blocks and 11 steals. The Pack took serious advantage on Sac State's sloppy play scoring 25 points off turnovers.
Nevada returns to action on the road this weekend when it travels to take on in-state rival UNLV on Sunday at 2 p.m. Nevada has lost three straight against the Rebels having fallen in Reno last year 74-63.
