DENVER - Nevada senior middle blocker Lindsay Baldwin has been named Verizon Western Athletic Conference Volleyball Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 25-31. This is the first WAC Player of the Week honor of the season for Baldwin and the second of her career.
Baldwin, from Hillsborough, Calif. (Notre Dame Belmont HS), led Nevada to a pair of road wins at Fresno State and San Jose State last week. Baldwin averaged 3.67 kills, 1.00 blocks and 4.39 points per set while hitting an impressive .407. The road victories were just the second and third of the season for the Wolf Pack. On Thursday, Baldwin had a season-high 20 kills and hit .432 in the Pack's 3-1 victory at Fresno State. On Saturday, she totaled 13 kills and six blocks with a .370 attack percentage in a 3-2 win at San Jose State. She recorded her 1,000th kill during the match to become the 11th player in school history to reach the mark.
Other nominees included: Breann Nesselhuf of Boise State averaged 9.0 assists for the Broncos last week ... Fresno State's Marissa Brand posted 53 kills and 36 digs as the Bulldogs went 1-2 ... Dani Mafua averaged 12.11 assists and 2.22 digs as Hawai'i went 3-0 ... New Mexico State's Kayleigh Giddens had 12 kills and three digs at UH ... Katie Astle helped Utah State to a 2-1 record as she hit .316 and averaged 1.55 kills.
