Box Score BOISE, Idaho - The University of Nevada (9-8, 3-1 WAC) won its first road match of the season downing Boise State University (15-5, 2-3 WAC) in a Western Athletic Conference match 3-1 Thursday night. The Wolf Pack dropped the first set 33-31 but took the next three 25-19, 25-19 and 25-21 to win the match.
The win was the third in a row for the Pack as they improved to 9-8 on the season and 3-1 in WAC play. The Broncos fell to 15-5 and 2-3 in conference action.
There were 20 lead changes and six ties in the first set before BSU prevailed 33-31. The set was tied at every point starting at 20-20 until the Broncos scored the final two points to break the final tie of 31-31. Junior Erin Garvey and senior Kylie Harrington had five kills each in the set while senior Lindsay Baldwin added four. The Pack hit .256 in set one and BSU .244.
Set two was only tied once at 3-3 before the Wolf Pack scored the next three points and never trailed in winning 25-19 to even the match at a set each. Sophomore Elissa Ji ended the set with a kill off an assist from junior setter Tatiana Santiago. Garvey totaled four kills in set two and sophomore Janelle Batista added three. The Pack hit .257 and the Broncos were held to a .081 attack percentage in the set.
Nevada scored the first four points of the third set and did not look back on the way to the 25-19 victory and 2-1 advantage in the match. Harrington scored the final two points of set three on passes from Santiago and finished with six kills in the set. The Pack continued to improve its attack percentage hitting .300 in set three while holding BSU to .091.
Set four was tied for the 11th time at 18-18 but a 7-3 Nevada run gave the Pack the 25-21 victory and 3-1 match win. Baldwin had four kills in the final set and Garvey three. The Pack hit .269 and BSU .132 in set four.
Garvey and Harrington tied for match-high honors with 15 kills each. The 15 kills is a new career-high for Garvey. Baldwin finished with 12 kills and a match-high eight blocks on the night. Santiago totaled a match-high 53 assists in the match. Harrington had 13 digs and Santiago 11 as they both posted double-doubles. It was Harrington's fourth double-double of the season and Santiago's second. Senior libero Nicole Link finished with a match-high 20 digs.
Liz Harden and Sadie Maughan totaled 12 kills each to top BSU while Alisha Young added 11. Setter Breann Nesselhuf dished out 47 assists. Kersti Whitney and Amanda Remy had 18 and 11 digs respectively for the Broncos.
Nevada hit .271 in the match and BSU .138. The Pack finished with 13 blocks compared to seven for the Broncos.
Nevada continues its two-match road swing to Idaho traveling to Moscow, Idaho to take on the University of Idaho on Saturday at 7 p.m.
