FRESNO, Calif. - Wessim Derbel led the members of the University of Nevada men's tennis team that traveled to the Bulldog Classic by advancing to the quarterfinals of the singles A flight.
Derbel advanced with a win over Sacramento State's Aliaksander Malko in three sets Friday.
"We have a young team and it is exciting to see what they can do when they play well," head coach Sylvain Malroux said.
Along with newcomer Quentin Mege, Derbel advanced to the finals of his doubles draw as well. That match will take place at 10 a.m. today, when the pair from Nevada will meet Aswin Kolady and John Karlmann of Fresno City College.
Each of Nevada's other singles participants fell in their opening matches. Freshman Victor Ouvard battled his way to the final round of his bracket after the defeat.
Play will conclude at Fresno State's Wathen Tennis Center. Matches were played at the courts at Fresno City College Saturday.
