RENO, Nev. -- The University of Nevada women's soccer team (6-6-2, 1-2 WAC) will be at home for two Western Athletic Conference matches this weekend.
The Pack will meet the Idaho Vandals (12-3, 3-0 WAC) Friday night at 7 p.m. and the Boise State Broncos (5-8-1, 2-1 WAC) Sunday at 1 p.m.
The Vandals 12 wins are the most in school history, while the 3-0 WAC record is the best conference start in program history. Nevada leads the all-time series by a 5-2 margin and has won five straight in the series by a total score of 12-3. Idaho hasn't beaten the Pack since 2001.
Boise State fell to Louisiana Tech 1-0 in their last match, seeing their offense stall after scoring 10 goals in the previous two matches. Those contests, a 6-0 defeat of New Mexico State and a 4-0 win at Hawai'i allowed the Broncos to open the WWAC season 2-0.
Nevada won their conference opener against New Mexico State when they last played inside Mackay Stadium, pulling out a 2-1, double overtime victory against the Aggies. In that match, senior Erin Smith tallied both Wolf Pack goals.
The Pack fell in their next two matches to Utah State and Louisiana Tech. The final score in both contests was 3-1.
In conjunction with the Susan G. Komen foundation, Sunday will be Breast Cancer Awareness Day against the Broncos. The Pack will wear pink jerseys and pink socks to show its support.
"This is a great thing to be a part of," head coach Dr. Melissa Price said. "This day is really about women supporting women and we're glad to do it."
The Susan G. Komen Foundation began in 1982, when Komen's sister Nancy G. Brinker promised to help her do more in the fight against Breast Cancer. Since its inception, the foundation has raised almost 1.5 Billion dollars and seen the five year survival rate (from diagnosis) in women go from 74 percent to 98 percent.
