Box Score RENO, Nev. - University of Nevada (7-8, 1-1 WAC) senior outside hitter Kylie Harrington led the Wolf Pack to a Western Athletic Conference sweep of San Jose State University (6-10, 1-2 WAC) Thursday night at the Virginia Street Gym before 427 fans. The Pack won by scores of 25-15, 25-22 and 25-17 to snap a five-match losing skid. With the victory Nevada improved to 7-8 on the season and won its first WAC match of the season as they stand at 1-1 in conference play. The Spartans dropped to 6-10 and 1-2 in WAC play.
With the score tied at 9-9 in the first set Nevada scored the next three points and closed out the set with a 16-6 run to win 25-15. Junior setter Tatiana Santiago served the final three points of the set to seal the victory. The Pack hit an outstanding .417 and held SJSU to a .111 attack percentage.
Set two was also tied at 9-9 but the Pack scored the next two points and never trailed the rest of the way to win set two 25-22 and take a 2-0 advantage into the locker room. The Pack hit .271 in set two and the Spartans .235.
Nevada took control of set three early jumping to a 10-1 lead before holding on for the 25-17 set victory and 3-0 match win. With the Pack on top by just two at 19-17 Harrington served the final six points of the match to close out the victory. The Pack hit .242 and SJSU .071 in the final set.
Harrington led the Pack with a match-high 15 kills while Santiago also had a match-high with 31 assists. Libero Nicole Link tallied 10 digs on the night.
Brianna Amian topped SJSU with eight kills and setter Caitlin Andrade had 17 assists. Libero Katie Turner finished with a match-high 13 digs.
Nevada hit .295 in the match and held SJSU to a .146 attack percentage. The Pack totaled 4.5 blocks and the Spartans had three.
The Pack will host Fresno State at 7 p.m. on Saturday night. Nevada will wear pink jerseys on Saturday to bring awareness to breast cancer and the Susan G. Komen Foundation Race for the Cure. Fans wearing a pink shirt will be admitted free to the match.
Silver & Blue Outfitters will also be selling pink shirts at the match with the proceeds going to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
The Race for the Cure takes place on Sunday at Boomtown with the Wolf Pack volleyball team in attendance as volunteers and participants in the race.
