RENO, Nev. - In its continuing effort to improve the game-day experience for all of its fans, the University of Nevada encourages fans to exhibit good sportsmanship at Mackay Stadium. At the home opener against Missouri on Friday, Sept. 25 and throughout the season, additional law enforcement and security personnel will be assigned to each game to help promote a safe and entertaining game day.
"Our goal is to promote an entertaining and family-friendly environment in and around Mackay Stadium," University of Nevada Chief of Police Adam Garcia said. "The vast majority of fans are great and cheer on the Wolf Pack with enthusiasm and sportsmanship. For the small percent of people who cause trouble, we have measures in place to help maintain or restore a positive and safe environment for everyone."
Nevada's "zero tolerance" policy will continue this season. Fans who behave inappropriately will face arrest or be directed to leave the university campus and face confiscation of their event tickets. Law enforcement officers and additional security personnel will be stationed at Mackay Stadium entry gates. Alcohol will not be allowed into the stadium and may not be consumed while standing in line, and beer kegs will not be allowed in the tailgating areas. Fans who bring kegs to their tailgate events, attempt to smuggle any amount of alcohol into the stadium or appear visibly intoxicated will be denied access to Mackay Stadium and directed to leave campus.
Inside Mackay Stadium, the Wolf Pack has established a Family Section in Section A to provide families an alcohol-free environment to bring their children to Nevada games. Smoking is not allowed in Mackay Stadium except in a designated smoking area. Fans who want to report inappropriate behavior are encouraged to speak to any usher, security member or events staff member.
"We are committed to our fans and helping to foster an enjoyable and safe environment at Wolf Pack games," Nevada Director of Athletics Cary Groth said. "Our great Wolf Pack fans play a vital part in the success of our program, and it is a pleasure to come together as a community to create a great game-day experience for everyone at Mackay Stadium."
