Player Notes
Harrington And Baldwin Named To All-Tournament Team: Nevada placed a pair of juniors on the Circus Circus All-Tournament team last weekend in outside hitter Kylie Harrington and middle blocker Lindsay Baldwin. Harrington averaged 3.85 kills, 2.00 digs and 4.14 points per set with a .178 attack percentage. She led the team in kills in all three matches and posted her second double-double of the season with 21 kills and 14 digs versus Sam Houston State. In all three matches she either tied or posted match-highs in kills.
Baldwin averaged 2.46 kills and 1.23 blocks while hitting .264 on the weekend. She had 16 kills versus Sam Houston State and 12 in the Portland State match. In the PSU match she hit an outstanding .458.
Scruggs In Season 13: University of Nevada head coach Devin Scruggs is in her 13th season as a head coach for the Wolf Pack in 2009 and will be looking to lead the Pack to yet another winning season. Scruggs has guided the Pack to all five of the schools NCAA Tournament appearances. In her previous 12 years she posted a career mark of 201-150. Her 200th victory came last season as the Pack knocked off Utah State 3-1 on Oct. 25.
Baldwin And Harrington Named To WAC Coaches' Preseason Team:
Nevada placed juniors Lindsay Baldwin and Kylie Harrington on the 2009 WAC Preseason Coaches' team as selected by the nine coaches. A middle blocker, Baldwin was also selected to the 2008 preseason team and was first-team All-WAC selection as a sophomore. She led the team averaging 1.14 blocks and 3.54 points per set which ranked fourth and seventh respectively in the conference. Her 2.71 kills per set was good for second on the squad. In just two seasons she has etched her name in the Nevada record book seven times.
Harrington started at outside hitter last season and was selected to the All-WAC second team after leading the team with 2.90 kills per set which was good for eighth in the conference. She was second on the team averaging 3.24 points per set and third with a 1.90 digs per set average. On the year she produced a team-high eight double-doubles to tie for fifth most in the WAC.
Team Notes: The first three weekends of the season the Pack have played in tournaments going 1-2 in each...Nevada snapped a four-match losing skid downing Houston 3-2 in the final match of the Wildcat Classic on Sept. 5...for the first times since 2003 Nevada won its season opener downing Connecticut 3-2 on Aug. 28...the Pack were picked to finish fifth in the WAC Preseason Coaches' Poll...all three Nevada wins have come in five set matches...Nevada plays in its fourth consecutive and tournament of the season this weekend at the Stockton Hilton Tournament in Stockton, Calif...the Pack rank fourth in hitting (.191%), fifth in assists (10.70 aps), eighth in blocking (1.77 bps), ninth in digs (10.62 dps), sixth in opponent hitting percentage (.210%), fifth in kills (11.57 kps) and sixth in service aces (1.19 saps) in the WAC...all 14 Wolf Pack players have seen action this season.
Player Notes: Junior Kylie Harrington has led the Pack in kills in eight-of-nine matches this season except at Arizona...Harrington tied her career high with 21 kills in Nevada's 3-2 victory over Houston and has reached double figures in kills in every match but at Arizona...Harrington has two double-doubles on the season with 21 kills and 15 digs vs. Houston and 17 kills and 14 digs vs. Sam Houston...sophomore setter Tatiana Santiago recorded her first double-double of the season with 25 assists and 12 digs vs. UC Davis...senior Sonnie Sei has split time with Santiago at setter this season as the two average 4.62 and 4.73 assists per set respectively...Sei and Santiago have each reached double figures in assists in eight of nine matches on the season...Sei dished out her 1300th career assist in the Pack's 3-2 win vs. Houston on Sept. 5 and her current total of 1,353 ranks ninth in school history....Harrington ranks fourth in points (3.88 pps), fourth in kills (3.41 kps) and sixth in services aces (.32 sapg) in the WAC...junior libero Nicole Link is seventh in the conference averaging 3.11 digs per set...Link's 20 digs vs. Houston is tied for the third best total in the WAC this season...Harrington's five service aces vs. UCONN is tied for the most by any WAC player this season...Harrington's 17 kills vs. UCONN, 13 vs. Eastern Washington and 21 vs. Houston were all match highs...Harrington has posted or tied for match-high honors in kills six times this season including the last five matches...Link's 19 digs vs. UCONN, 15 vs. Eastern Washington and 20 vs. Houston were all match highs...Link has led the Pack in digs in five of nine matches this season...senior Jorgan Staker came off the bench and totaled 12 kills versus Portland State which is one off her career-high...Staker hit .588 in the PSU match which is the high by any Pack player this season...sophomore Erin Garvey established a new career-high with 12 kills versus Sam Houston State on Sept. 12.
Pack Players Climbing Career Lists: Four Pack players are current ranked in the top 10 in various career lists and continue to climb the charts this season.
Junior Lindsay Baldwin appears on three of the lists, ranking sixth with 799 career points, is fifth with 266 block assists and is sixth with 294 career total blocks.
Fellow junior Kylie Harrington has taken over the number nine spot with her 646.5 career points.
Senior setter Sonnie Sei is ninth with 1,353 career assists while senior right side hitter Jorgan Staker is currently eighth with 206 career block assists.
Yates Injured: Sophomore middle blocker Brittni Yates injured her ankle in the Pack's match with Eastern Washington on Sept. 4 and missed the Circus Circus Invitational last weekend. Yates status for this weekend is unknown at this time.
