RENO, Nev. - The University of Nevada soccer team fell to UC Irvine 3-0 Sunday afternoon at Mackay Stadium.
With the loss Nevada falls to 0-3 this season while UC Irvine, who entered the week ranked seventh in the West Region by National Soccer Coaches Association of America, improved to 3-1.
In the 21st minute Nevada had a good scoring chance off a free kick by Devin Noe. Noe took a free kick from 45 yards to the back post where Jill Erickson's header went just wide.
The Anteaters scored their first goal in the 24th minute as Devon Delarosa scored on a header off an assist from Dana Sanderlin. UC Irvine increased its lead to 2-0 in the 32nd minute as Tanya Taylor scored an unassisted goal after collecting a rebound off a shot that Wolf Pack keeper Marie Cove blocked.
Nevada had another scoring opportunity 51st minute of the match. Kesia Broome beat defenders up the right side of the field, cut in and drove a ball into the six-yard box narrowly missing connecting with Jillian Masciola on the far post.
The Anteaters scored their final goal of the match in the 70th minute as Sanderlin scored an unassisted goal after collecting a rebound in the box.
Cove played the full 90 in goal for Nevada and made five saves while UC Irvine keeper Danielle de Seriere played the full game and made one save.
UC Irvine outshot Nevada 16-2 in the match including a 7-1 advantage in shots on goal.
Junior Alyx Sacks made her first career start for Nevada.
Nevada will play at Oregon State and Portland State on Friday and Sunday at 8 p.m. and 1 p.m.
