The Wolf Pack community today is mourning the loss today of Pat Brady, one of the all-time greats at the University of Nevada, who died Tuesday. He was 83.
Brady came to Nevada from his native Seattle. He joined the Wolf Pack in 1948 as a quarterback and punter and he holds the NCAA record for the longest punt ever -- a 99-yarder against Loyola in 1950.
"Pat was one fine man," Nevada coach Chris Ault said. "He always represented our university well and he always had a passion for Wolf Pack football."
Brady was inducted into the Nevada Athletic Hall of Fame in 1979 and was named to the school's Team of the Century as a punter in 1998.
Brady played one season professionally in Canada and later joined the Pittsburgh Steerls for three season. According to the Reno Gazette-Journal, Brady was named to the Steelers’ 50th Anniversary Team in 1982 and to its 75th anniversary “Legends Team” in 2007.
He was a successful local businessman in Reno for many year and in 1971, was named the Nevada State Printer by Gov. Mike O'Callaghan.
