RENO, Nev. The University of Nevada soccer team will play a total of eight regular season home games and will face four teams that advanced to last season’s NCAA Tournament during the 2009 season.
Nevada will also face five first-time opponents in Cal, Oregon State, Fordham, North Dakota and New Mexico State.
Nevada will open 2009 season with an exhibition match against Chico State in Reno on August 16 at 1 p.m. The Pack will travel to Cal, a 2008 NCAA Tournament participant, on August 21 for the first-ever meeting between the two schools.
Nevada will host a pair of Southern California schools on August 28 and 30, hosting UC Santa Barbara, a 2008 NCAA Tournament participant, on Friday and UC Irvine on Sunday. Nevada will travel to Oregon for a September 4 matchup against first-time opponent Oregon State before traveling to Portland for a game at Portland State on September 6.
The Pack will host first-time opponent Fordham (Bronx, N.Y.) on September 11 and will take on Sacramento State on September 13 in Reno. Nevada will open a four-game road trip on September 18 and 20 at the Minnesota Gold Classic. The Pack will face host Minnesota, who advanced to the third round of the 2008 NCAA Tournament, on Friday. Nevada will closeout Classic action with a game against first-time opponent North Dakota on Sunday.
The Pack will continue its four-game road trip on September 24 with a game at St. Mary’s and will finish non-conference play at UC Davis in Davis, Calif., on September 27.
Nevada will open conference play at home against Utah State on October 4. The Pack will also host San Jose State, 2008 WAC Tournament winner Fresno State and LA Tech during the conference season. Nevada will play road conference matches at Idaho, Boise State, Hawai`i and New Mexico State who will be fielding a soccer team for the first time in school history.
The league’s top six teams will meet in Boise, Idaho November 5-8 for the 2009 WAC Tournament hosted by Boise State with the winner automatically earning the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
