RENO, Nev. - Senior Caroline Bailly and junior Maria Mizyuk were selected this week by the Western Athletic Conference for All-WAC teams.
Bailly, a native of Liege, Belgium, was named first team All-WAC in singles for the third time in her career. After Nevada (13-8) defeated Idaho in the WAC Championships quarterfinal Wednesday, Bailly has compiled a 18-14 record this season in singles. In dual competition, Bailly recorded 13-8 and is 12-8 when playing in No. 1 singles. This season, Bailly has faced five opponents that were ranked in singles by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
Mizyuk, a native of Volgodonsk, Russia, was named second team All-WAC in singles. It is the third consecutive year that Mizyuk has earned All-WAC team in her career. Coming off an injury set at last year’s WAC Championships, Mizyuk returned to the court on Jan. 16-18 at the Cal Winter Invitational in Berkeley, Calif. But Mizyuk only competed in doubles action. Mizyuk’s singles return was at Pacific on Jan. 31, where she defeated Clara Schuhmacher in No. 5 singles. Since then, Mizyuk has moved up in singles to where she currently plays in No. 3. This season, Mizyuk is 14-5 when playing in singles.
Together, Bailly and Mizyuk were named second team All-WAC in doubles. It the third consecutive year the duo have earned All-WAC teams together. Since their first match back together on Feb. 14 against Sacramento State, Bailly and Mizyuk compiled a 12-8 record this season and they also extended their career wins together to 51, which is Nevada’s all-time career doubles victories leader. Bailly and Mizyuk were No. 26 in the nation together, the highest doubles ranking under fourth-year head coach Sylvain Malroux’s tenure.
The third seeded and No. 66 Wolf Pack will face second seed and No. 36 Boise State Friday at 3 p.m. PT in the WAC Championships semifinal.
