LONG BEACH, Calif. - The University of Nevada women’s tennis team pulled the biggest upset of it’s season defeating No. 25 Long Beach State 4-3 Friday.
Senior Caroline Bailly extended her singles win streak to four defeating Hannah Grady 6-3, 6-2 in No. 1 singles. Bailly also extends her career win record to 64 in singles, currently sitting second in the Wolf Pack’s all-time list.
Sophomore Florence De Vrye came out victorious in the No. 2 spot, defeating Deborah Armstrong 7-6 (9), 5-7, 6-1. Sophomore Aodhnait Lombard and freshman Katarina Huba were also victorious in the Nos. 5 and 6 positions, respectively. Lombard defeated Julie Luzar 7-6 (4), 6-1 while Huba topped Lisa Sutton 7-5, 6-1.
However, Nevada (2-6, 0-1 Western Athletic Conference) was unable to pick up the doubles point. Bailly and junior Maria Mizyuk were defeated 8-6 in the No. 1 position by Grady and Jessica Weeks.
The win snaps Nevada’s five-match losing streak.
The Wolf Pack will head to Irvine, Calif., to take on No. 38 UC Irvine Saturday at 9 a.m. PT.
