RENO, Nev. - The University of Nevada women's basketball team fell to UNLV, 74-63, Sunday afternoon at Lawlor Events Center in front of 746 fans.
With the loss Nevada fell to 5-4 while UNLV improved to 4-4.
Nevada went on a 7-0 run to open the game before UNLV went on a 22-2 run over nearly nine minutes to go ahead 22-9. Nevada cut the lead to three on a layup from Nicole Williams, 27-24, with 1:59 left in the first half. UNLV had an eight-point lead at half, 34-26.
In the second half, the Pack cut the lead to six, 34-38, early in the half before the Rebels extended their lead to a game-high 18, 53-35, with 10:17 left in the game. With four minutes remaining Nevada pulled to within three, 61-58, on a free throw from Shavon Moore but UNLV pushed its lead back to double digits with 1:25 left in the game as the Rebels went on to record the 74-63 win.
Moore recorded her seventh career double-double, and second on the season, with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Johnna Ward scored a team-high 18 points while Marianne Lombardi recorded 10 points, seven rebounds and seven assists for the Pack.
As a team, Nevada shot 37.1 percent (23-of-62) from the floor while UNLV shot 41.1 percent (23-of-56). UNLV went 24-of-35 from the free throw line while Nevada went 12-of-19. The Pack outrebounded the Rebels 46-to-74.
Nevada will play at Pepperdine at 5 p.m. on December 18.
