TUCSON, Ariz. - The University of Nevada women's basketball team fell at Arizona, 84-57, Friday night in Tucson, Ariz.
With the loss Nevada fell to 5-3 overall while Arizona improved to 5-1. Nevada senior Marianne Lombardi played in her 100th career game for Nevada.
Arizona jumped out to a quick lead, 8-0, with 15:34 left in the first half. Johnna Ward hit a long three to bring the score to 10-3 with 14:38 remaining. Nevada cut the lead to 12-9 on a layup by Marissa Hammond with 8:59 left in the half.
Arizona extended its lead to 30-17 with 2:47 left in the half before Nevada pulled to within eight, 32-24, at the half.
The Wildcats extended their lead to 15 with 17:47 left in the game before Shavon Moore and Hammond scored on back-to-back possessions to cut the lead to 11, 39-28 with 16:42 remaining.
Arizona went up by 34 with 3:37 left in the game before the Wildcats went on to post the 84-57 win.
Moore led Nevada with 17 points while Ward added 10. Kayla Williams recorded a team-high eight rebounds. Brittany Woodard tied her career high with seven points.
Nevada shot just 29.4 percent (15-of-51) from the floor while Arizona shot 50.8 percent (31-of-61).
Nevada will host UNLV on Sunday at 2 p.m.
