Nevada Closes Out Regular Season At Utah State: The University of Nevada (11-18, 7-8 WAC) will close out the regular season with a single Western Athletic Conference match this week at Utah State (14-14, 5-10 WAC) on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. MST. The Wolf Pack defeated the Aggies in the first meeting 3-2 back on Oct. 10 in Reno.
Pack Headed To Las Vegas For WAC Tournament: Nevada has qualified for the season ending Western Athletic Conference Tournament that will be played at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, Nov. 23-25. The Pack will either be the fourth or fifth seed and play at 7:30 p.m. on the Monday. Nevada's opponent will either be Fresno State or Boise State depending on the final matches to be played this Thursday.
WAC Tournament Tickets On Sale: Tickets for the 2009 Western Athletic Conference volleyball tournament are on sale at the University of Nevada ticket office by calling 348-PACK. The tournament will be held at a neutral site this season in Las Vegas Nov. 23-25 at the Orleans Arena and cost for all session tickets is just $45.00. Different from past seasons is six of the nine teams will qualify for tournament based on regular season play.
Fans traveling to the tournament are encouraged to stay at the Orleans Hotel and Casino. Rates are $90.00 per night Friday and Saturday, Nov. 20-21 and 35.00 per night Sunday through Wednesday, Nov. 22-25, single or double occupancy, plus room tax and resort fee. Harrington Named WAC Player of the Week: DENVER - Nevada junior outside hitter Kylie Harrington has been named the Verizon Wireless Western Athletic Conference Volleyball Player of the Week for the week of Nov. 9-15. This is the first-ever WAC Player of the Week honor for Harrington.
The Honolulu native tallied 54 kills, 22 digs, three assists and two service aces as Nevada went 2-1 in WAC matches last week to clinch a spot in the upcoming WAC Tournament. Harrington averaged 4.91 kills on .283 hitting, 5.14 points and 2.00 digs and led the Pack in kills in all three matches. In the first match of the week at Fresno State, she established career highs with 25 kills and 27 points and hit .298 as the Pack won 3-1. In Thursday's 3-1 loss to New Mexico State, Harrington totaled a team-high 11 kills. In the final match of the week, she had a match-high 18 kills and hit a career-best .571 as Nevada swept Louisiana Tech 3-0.
Five Pack Players Climbing Career Lists As 2009 Season Nears End:
Five players continue their climb up the Nevada career lists as the 2009 season nears its conclusion.
Junior Lindsay Baldwin has moved past 1000 career points and her 1004 currently ranks sixth in school history. Baldwin also ranks fourth with 330 career block assists and is fourth with 369 total blocks.
Junior outside hitter Kylie Harrington is just behind Baldwin in seventh with 908.5 career points.
Senior setter Sonnie Sei's 1762 assists ranks eighth in school history and 24 more will move her past Jennifer Harris (1999-00) for seventh. With 38 more assists she will become the sixth player in Nevada history to reach 1800 in a career.
Junior libero Nicole Link's 979 career digs ranks ninth in school history and leaves her just 21 from 1000 for her career. Her 395 digs this season is two more than she totaled last year and ranks as the sixth best season in Pack history and moves her 393 from last year to seventh. Just eight more digs will push her into fifth and 34 could move her as high as second.
Senior Jorgan Staker appears in a pair of categories ranking seventh in block assists with 225 and is eighth with 230 total blocks.
