Nevada Post-Game Notes
With this win, Nevada…
n Improves to 1-3 on the season, 103-92 as an FBS school and 483-432-33 in its history (103rd season)
n Coach Chris Ault improves to 199-94-1 in his 25-year career.
n Retains possession of the Fremont Cannon, which will stay “home” in Cashell Fieldhouse for another year.
n Wins its fifth-straight game in the rivalry and improves to 20-15 overall in the series and 12-6 all-time at Mackay Stadium in the rivalry. Nevada’s five-game winning streak matches three other five-game streaks in the rivalry (Nevada, 1989-93; Nevada 1995-99; UNLV 2000-04).
n Coach Chris Ault improves to 12-7 overall in the series and 7-2 all-time at Mackay Stadium in the rivalry. Since 1987, Ault has only lost twice to the Rebels and he hasn’t lost to the Rebels at Mackay Stadium since 1979.
SILVER AND BLUE CANNON: With the victory, Nevada will retain possession of the Fremont Cannon for another year. Nevada’s seniors will conclude their careers having never lost to UNLV.
RUSHING RECORD: Nevada rushed for a school-record 559 rushing yards as a team. That eclipses the previous mark of 545, set against Sacramento State in 1977.
The 559 yards is the most by an FBS team this year (Previous: 474 yards by Nicholls State on Sept. 5)
TOTAL OFFENSE: The Wolf Pack rolled up 773 yards of total offense (10.4 yards per play) in the game, the most since 791 yards of total offense against San Jose State in 2001. The school record is 793 yards against UNLV in 1993.
The 773 yards of total offense is the most by an FBS team this year (Previous: Florida, 663 yards vs. Troy on Sept. 12)
THREE FOR A 100: Another school record was set as Mike Ball, Colin Kaepernick and Luke Lippincott each rushed for 100 yards in more, the first time in school history that three backs topped the 100-yard mark in the same game.
The NCAA record for most players on the same team rushing for 100 yards or more is four, held by four teams.
BALL IN THE BACKFIELD: Redshirt freshman Mike Ball had a coming out party as a running back Saturday.
The Las Vegas product rushed for 184 yards and five touchdowns – the first yards and touchdowns of his career. The 184 yards are a season-high for a Nevada player this year and the five touchdowns are the most since Chance Kretschmer scored six at UTEP in 2006.
The 89-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter is the fourth-longest touchdown run by an FBS back this season.
LUKE HITS THE CENTURY MARK: Luke Lippincott hit the 100-yard mark for the 12th time in his career after rushing for 170 yards and a touchdown.
KAP RUNS WILD AGAINST UNLV, PART II: In two career games against UNLV, Kaepernick has accounted for 797 yards and seven touchdowns.
Today, Kaepernick ran for 173 yards and completed 15-of-18 for 208 yards and a touchdown. He also had a receiving touchdown.
This is Kaepernick’s seventh career 100-yard game.
This is the second straight year that Kaepernick topped the 100-yard mark on the ground against UNLV Last year, Kaepernick rushed for 240 yards and three touchdowns at Las Vegas, while throwing for two more scores. In all, he accounted for 416 yards of total offense and five TDs in last year’s 49-27 victory.
ROLE REVERSAL: Colin Kaepernick was on the receiving end of a 6-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter as senior Luke Lippincott took the handoff and then threw to his QB for the score. It is the first reception for Kaepernick in his career and the first TD pass in Lippincott’s career.
STREAKS: Senior tackle Alonzo Durham started his 31st consecutive game. The co-captain has not missed a start since making his first career start at the 2006 MPC Computers Bowl. Also, junior tackle Mike Gallett made his 24th straight start while senior safety Jonathon Amaya made his 21st straight start.
TFL: Junior Dontay Moch entered the game tied for fourth in the nation in tackles for loss and will likely move up after four TFLs for a loss of 18 yards on Saturday.
BLOCKED PUNT: Redshirt freshman Albert Rosette blocked a punt in the first quarter. The was the first blocked punt by Nevada since Roderick Stallings blocked a punt against Sacramento State in 2004.
WEEKLY LUNCHEONS: The University of Nevada Quarterback Club Luncheons will continue this Monday at the Peppermill Hotel-Casino in Reno. Coach Ault will review the Missouri game with a film review and will preview the UNLV game. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. and the cost is $16 per person. The luncheons are open to the public.
UP NEXT: Nevada will stay home for the final game of a three-game homestand as the Wolf Pack will play host to Louisiana Tech in the Western Athletic Conference opener for both teams. The game is the second of three Friday-night tilts for the Pack and it will be live on ESPN at 6 p.m.
ET CETERA: Nevada won the toss and deferred to the second half. UNLV received the opening kickoff and Nevada defended the North … Chris Wellington’s streak of 16 consecutive games with a reception came to an end … Six different players caught passes … Punter Brad Langley did not play.
