BOISE, Idaho - The University of Nevada (7-15, 3-6 WAC) volleyball team was swept 3-0 in a Western Athletic Conference match by Boise State (4-18, 4-6 WAC) at Bronco Gym today falling 13-25, 23-25 and 24-26. The loss leaves the Wolf Pack 7-15 on the season and 3-6 in WAC Play while the Broncos improved to 4-18 overall and 4-6 in conference play. The two teams split the two matches this season as the Pack won 3-1 earlier this season at home.
There were three ties early in set one before BSU won easily 25-13. The Broncos held a two-point advantage at 12-10 but scored the next four points to take control of the first set. The Pack hit .111 in set one compared to .412 for BSU.
In set two there were 10 ties and four lead changes but the Broncos escaped with the two-point victory 25-23. With the set tied at 23-23 BSU recorded back-to-back blocks on attack attempts from Pack junior Kylie Harrington to win the set and take a 2-0 advantage into the break. Nevada improved its attack percentage to .186 and BSU's slipped to .209.
Set three was also close with 13 ties and four lead changes but once again the Broncos won a two-point set 26-24 to take the match 3-0. BSU's Alisha King ended the match recording back-to-back kills off assists from setter Breann Nesselhuf to break a 24-24 tie. Nevada had its best hitting percentage of the match at .216 and held BSU to their worst at .205 but the Broncos still prevailed.
Harrington led Nevada with 10 kills and libero Nicole Link posted a match-high 14 digs. Setters Tatiana Santiago and Sonnie Sei dished out 18 and 16 assists respectively.
King topped BSU with 17 kills and Sadie Maughan added 11. Nesselhuf finished with a match-high 41 assists. Jeanene Rose (13), Kersti Whitney (12), Amanda Remy (10) and Lauren Hamm (10) all reached double figures in digs for the Broncos.
BSU hit .267 in the match and Nevada .172. The Broncos totaled eight blocks compared to six for the Pack. Junior Lindsay Baldwin had three blocks for Nevada and Nesselhuf five for BSU
Nevada returns home to host San Jose State on Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m.
