RENO, Nev. - The University of Nevada women's basketball team will open practice for the 2009-10 season Friday night at Lawlor Events Center.

The team, which finished 2008-09 with an 18-14 overall record (10-6 WAC) and advanced to the final game of the WAC tournament, will practice at Lawlor from 7:30 p.m. until 9 p.m. Friday night.

"Optimism runs high with our staff and team because of the work my team has put in individually during the off season," second-year head coach Jane Albright said.  "Losing three starters to graduation is always tough but most of our team is back and we feel ready for the challenge.  By conference I believe we will have figured out how to be successful."

The Pack returns two starters and 10 letterwinners from last season's team which recorded one of the most successful seasons in program history under Jane Albright.  Albright, who is entering her second season this fall, became the all-time winningiest first-year head coach as well as coached Nevada to its first win over a top-25 team, as the Pack beat #7/8 Louisville 85-82 in November.

"We are all really excited about the season and we are counting down the time until our first game," senior guard Megan Cherry said.  "We are excited about our first practice because it's one step closer to the games."

Nevada will open the 2009-10 season with an exhibition game against CSU East Bay on November 1 at 2 p.m.  The Pack will open the regular season at home on November 13 against CUS Monterey Bay at 7 p.m.
