About Nevada

Nevada split its weekend WAC games on the road beating Idaho 2-1 on Friday before falling to Boise State 2-0 on Sunday.  The Pack returns seven starters and 14 letterwinners from last season's team that finished 3-14-3 overall (2-4-1/6th/WAC) and made the program's fourth consecutive appearance in the WAC Tournament. Nevada is coached by second-year head coach Jaime Frias.

Scouting the San Jose State Spartans

All-Time Series: San Jose State leads the all-time series, 2-7-1.      

Last Meeting: San Jose State beat Nevada 1-0 in Reno last season.      

A Look at San Jose State: The Spartans are 7-4-2 overall and 2-0-1 in WAC.  The team is on a school-record unbeaten streak of nine games dating back to September 6.  Roxy Kamal leads the team in points with 15 while Emmy Belding leads the team in goals with six and is second in points with 12.  Keeper Nina Butera has started and played in 11 games this season.  She has a 0.72 GAA and has allowed eight goals while making 50 saves.   

Scouting the Fresno State Bulldogs

All-Time Series: Fresno State leads the all-time series, 1-8-1.      

Last Meeting: Nevada fell to Fresno State twice in 2008, both by scores of 2-0 during the regular season and the WAC Tournament semifinals.        

A Look at Fresno State: The Bulldogs are 4-9 overall and 2-3 in WAC.  They are coming off a loss to New Mexico State and a win over LA Tech.  Claudia Cardenas leads the team in points with six while Laura Dodd is second with five.  Keeper Kaitlyn Revel has started 10 games while playing in 11.  She has a GAA of 1.45 and has made 58 saves and allowed 16 goals.  Chrissy Smith has played in two games and has a 1.00 GAA.

Nevada's two WAC wins through its first three games this season equals the number of wins that the Pack finished with in WAC play in 2008...Ellie Stott scored a game-winning goal this weekend against Idaho...Kesia Broome and Cristen Drummond each recorded an assist against Idaho...Sarah Voss scored her second career goal at Idaho...Annabelle Allen is 2-for-2 in penalty kicks this season...Jill Erickson leads the team in points (9) and goals (4)...Kesia Broome is second on the team in points with five while Annabelle Allen, Natalie Ratnavira, Ellie Stott and Sarah Voss are tied for third in points with four each.

Nevada Opens WAC Play with Win for Second Straight Year

Nevada's WAC-opening win on October 4 against Utah State marked the second straight season that Nevada has opened WAC play with a win.  The Pack also beat Hawai'i 1-0 in Reno to open the 2008 conference season.

Frias sets career high for wins in a season at Nevada

Nevada's 1-0 win over Utah State gave the Pack its fourth win of the season.  The four wins marks the most wins in a season under second-year head coach Jaime Frias.  The Pack picked up its fifth win of the year at Idaho.  Frias recorded three overall wins as a first-year head coach in 2008.  The program record for most overall wins by a first-year head coach is six set by interim head coach Anotinette Marjanovic in 2007.

Erickson Tied for 11th in Career Goals

Junior Jill Erickson has recorded four goals this year and is currently in a tie for 11th all time with seven career goals.  Earlier this season she moved into a tie for first in consecutive matches with a point as she scored goals in three consecutive games.  She scored the game winner against Fordham on a header and scored the game winner against Sacramento State off a free kick.  She scored her third consecutive goal in a loss at Minnesota. Erickson is tied for fifth all-time in game-winning goals with three.  

Two Career Starts + Two Shutouts = WAC Defensive POW

Freshman Dana Moreno, who was named WAC Defensive Player of the Week on Sept, became just the second player in program history to record a shutout in her first collegiate start as Nevada blanked Fordham, 1-0.  She joins Caitlin Holmes who recorded a 2-0 win over Sacramento State in her first career start in 2006.  Moreno recorded her second career shutout two days later with a 2-0 win over Sacramento State.  With her two shutouts, Moreno is tied for fifth all-time in career shutouts.  She trails the all-time leader, Megan Tarpenning (2002-05), who recorded eight. 

Cove Moves into Second All-Time in Career Saves          

Junior Marie Cove moved into second all-time in career saves.  Cove, who has recorded 49 saves this season, is second all-time with 129 career saves.  Cove trails Megan Tarpenning (2002-05) who recorded 403 career saves for Nevada.

Nevada's Recruiting Class Top in the WAC

Nevada soccer team's 11-member incoming class was ranked first in the Western Athletic Conference by topdrawersoccer.com.  Nevada was picked first followed by Idaho, Hawai'i, New Mexico State, Utah State, San Jose State, Boise State and Fresno State.  This is the first honor in program history for Nevada from topdrawersoccer.com.  The Pack's recruiting classes were ranked first in the conference by Soccer Buzz Magazine in 2005, 2006 and 2007.  

Drummond Named to Preseason All-WAC Team

Junior forward Cristen Drummond was named to the 2009 Preseason All-WAC Team. Drummond, who led the team in scoring last season with four goals, was named to the 2008 All-WAC First Team and the WAC All-Tournament Team. Her selection marks the 10th time a Nevada player has earned Preseason All-WAC honors. 

Drummond Cracks Career Top-10 in Points, Goals

Junior Cristen Drummond is ranked in the top-10 in both career points (10th - 22 points) and goals (T6 - nine goals).  She is the only current player to be ranked in those categories.  In 2008 she scored a team-leading four goals and leads the team in points with eight.  This season she has recorded an assist against Idaho.  As a freshman in 2007, Drummond recorded five goals and three assists during the year and finished second on the team in points with 13.

Smith and Allen Win Second Consecutive National Championship

Junior defender Erin Smith and sophomore midfielder Annabelle Allen helped lead their U19 club team Colorado Rush to its second consecutive U.S. Youth Soccer National Championship. The Rush beat Eclipse Select of Chicago 4-2 in overtime of the championship game on July 26.  With the back-to-back national championships the Rush became the first club in U.S. Youth Soccer history to have two different teams repeat as champions. The Rush was also awarded with the U.S. Youth Soccer Fair Play Award within their division.  Smith and Allen also played on the Rush's 2008 National Championship team in which their U18 Colorado Rush team beat Sting 90 (North Texas) 3-0 for the title in Little Rock, Ark.

October 16 - Big Brothers, Big Sisters Night/BBBS matches will bring their BBBS ID and get into the game for free.

October 18 - Pub Club Day/Pub Club Members will line up with the team for starting lineups.

November 1 - Senior Day & High School Day/TBA.

Boise State to Host 2009 WAC Soccer Tournament

Boise State will host the 2009 WAC Tournament for the third time since 2005.  This year's tournament will be held at the Boas Soccer Complex November 5-6 and 7.  The top two seeds in the six-team tournament will receive first round byes. Quarterfinals will be played on November 5 and semifinal games will be played on November 6.  The championship game will be played on November 8 with the winner earning the WAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Boise State has also hosted the WAC soccer tournament in 2005 and 2007.  

Upcoming Schedule

Nevada will play one game in each of next two weeks starting with a game at Hawai'i on October 23 at 5 p.m. and a game at New Mexico State on Friday, Oct. 30 at 7 p.m.  The Pack will close out the regular season at home on November 1 against LA Tech at 1 p.m.
