RENO, Nev. - The University of Nevada’s Maria Mizyuk and Caroline Bailly have been ranked in the preseason rankings. The Intercollegiate Tennis Association ranked Mizyuk and Bailly No. 26 in doubles. In singles, Mizyuk is ranked No. 58 while Bailly is ranked No. 91.

The ITA selected the top 125 players in singles and the top 50 doubles team. Mizyuk and Bailly’s ranking in both singles and doubles is the highest in fourth-year head coach Sylvain Malroux’s tenure.

“The reason they are ranked is because we had a tough schedule last year,” Malroux said. “I think it’s a great reward for all the hard work they put in for the past two to three years.

“I believe it’s the beginning for them this year because they continue playing and training hard. I think both of them can make it to the NCAA Championships at the end of the season. That would make a great senior year for Caroline.”

At the end of the NCAA Championships last season, Mizyuk was ranked No. 81 while Bailly was ranked No. 119 in singles play. In doubles team, Mizyuk and Bailly were ranked No. 41 in the nation.

At the Western Athletic Conference Championship last season, Mizyuk tore her ACL during singles play, forcing her to forfeit her match to Boise State’s Pichettra Thongdack.

“Maria may not be ready,” Malroux said. “I’m not sure when she will start competing but she is on the right track.”
