2008 NOTES

NEVADA RETURNS HOME FOR THREE IN A ROW
The University of Nevada (5-8, 1-3 WAC) volleyball team will look to snap a season-high four-match losing skid when it hosts its next three opponents in a five day span beginning Thursday.  The Pack will seek to snap a season-high .  The first two matches are WAC opponents, Thursday versus Idaho (8-6, 1-2 WAC) and Saturday versus Boise State (4-9, 1-2 WAC).  Tuesday is the final nonconference match of the season when Sacramento State (2-14) comes to Reno.  All three matches get underway at 7:00 p.m. at the Virginia Street Gym.
Nevada is 4-2 in WAC play versus Idaho and 13-1 against BSU.  Last season the Pack split the two regular season matches with the Vandals with each school winning at home but Nevada won the matchup at the WAC tournament to take the season series 2-1.  Nevada swept the two matches with the Broncos a year ago.

HERNANDEZ CRACKS TOP 10:  The Pack’s lone senior, outside hitter/libero Allison Hernandez totaled 40 digs in three matches last week bringing her careeer total to 910 which moved her into Nevada’s all-time top 10 at number nine.  Hernandez needs 43 digs to catch Kerry Haggard’s (1990-92) total of 953 for eighth.

BALDWIN ESTABLISHES NEW CAREER HIGH WITH 21 KILLS:  Sophomore middle blocker Lindsay Baldwin surpassed her career-high in kills once again last week on Sept. 25 with 21 versus SJSU but the Pack fell 3-2.  Just one week earlier at Louisiana Tech on Sept. 18 she totaled a then career-high 20 in the Pack’s 3-2 victory over the Lady Techsters.  She hit .410 in both of the 20 kill performances.  Earlier she totaled 15 kills versus Seattle and UC Davis which was then her career high.  She is the only Pack player to record 20 or more kills in a match this season

HERNANDEZ AND HARRINGTON TOP TEAM WITH FOUR DOUBLE-DOUBLES:  Senior outside hitter/libero Allison Hernandez and sophomore outside hitter Kylie Harrington lead the Pack with four double-doubles each.  Both had three going into the SJSU match last week and each posted their fourth versus the Spartans.  Heranandez totaled 10 kills and 14 digs while Harrington finished with 12 kills and a career-high 16 digs.  As a team Nevada has posted 11 double-doubles on the season and the two have combined for eight of those.  Setter Sonnie Sei, middle blocker Lindsay Baldwin and outside hitter/libero Nicole Link have one each.

YOUNG PACK CONTINUES TO BE LED BY UNDERCLASSMEN:  The 2008 Nevada volleyball team continues to be led by underclassmen which make up 63 percent of the roster.  Of the 16 members on the squad 10 are underclassmen.  The 10 breaks down to four sophomores, a red shirt freshman and five true freshmen.  All four sophomores Lindsay Baldwin, Jessica Daum, Kylie Harrington and Nicole Link have see action.  Red shirt freshman Brittni Yates along with three of the true freshmen Erin Garvey, Tatiana Santiago and Kylee Vance have seen action this season.  Taylor Brown and Brittany Woodard are the other two freshmen that are scheduled to redshirt.  Of the 10  Baldwin, Harrington, Link, Yates and Garvey have made starts.

SCRUGGS NEARING 200:  Head coach Devin Scruggs in nearing 200 career wins all coming at Nevada.  In her 12th season she has posted a career mark of 194-141, leaving her six wins shy of 200.  During her tenure the Pack has made five NCAA Tournament appearances in 1998, 2001, 2002, 2004 and 2005.  The 1998 and 2002 teams won a school record 22 matches.  Since her arrival at Nevada 29 players have earned all-conference honors, 10 first team and 19 second team.  Michelle More in 2002 and Salaia Salave`a in 2005 garnered AVCA All-West Region honors.  Salave`a was an honorable mention All-America selection in 2005.
