Nevada Postgame Notes
Nevada has now won four straight games in the rivalry and retains possession of the Fremont Cannon. The four-game winning streak is the longest for Nevada since a pair of five-game win streaks in the 1990s.
The Wolf Pack now holds a 19-15 all-time advantage in the series. Nevada is now 8-9 at Las Vegas in the series.
Nevada coach Chris Ault is now 193-87-1 all-time in his career. He is 11-7 all-time against the Rebels and 5-5 against UNLV in Las Vegas.
With 240 yards on the ground, sophomore quarterback Colin Kaepernick recorded the first 200-yard rushing game of his career. He is the ONLY quarterback in Nevada history to rush for more than 200 yards in a game and becomes the 14th player in Nevada history to rush for 200 or more yards. His 240 rushing yards marks the ninth best single-game performance in school history
Kaepernick had three rushing TDs on the night. He now has seven on the season and 13 in his career.
Kaepernick completed 11-of-16 for 176 yards and two touchdowns. He accumulated 416 yards of total offense.
Vai Taua recorded the second 100-yard rushing game of his career, finishing with 19 carries for 123 yards and one touchdown.
This is the first time Nevada has had two players rush for at least 100 yards in a game since Kaepernick (136) and Luke Lippincott (143) did it against New Mexico State last season.
Chris Wellington’s 70-yard touchdown reception in the first quarter was the first career touchdown for the sophomore. It marked Nevada’s longest pass play since a 74-yard Colin Kaepernick-to-Kyle Sammons TD connection against Louisiana Tech on Dec. 1, 2007.
Virgil Green hauled in a 40-yard TD pass from Kaepernick in the second quarter the first touchdown of the sophomore’s career.
Courtney Randall’s 7-yard TD run in the second quarter was his first score of the year.
Five different players scored touchdowns for Nevada.
Punter Brad Langley booted a career-long 77-yard punt in the first quarter that went in for a touchback, resulting in a career-best 57-yard net.
Starter changes: Ryan Coulson at DE (instead of Dontay Moch); Doyle Miller at CB (instead of Mike Evans); Dominic Green moved to C (instead of Josh Catapano) with John Bender at G (in place of Green).
Et cetera: Doyle Miller’s start was the first of his career ... Marko Mitchell has now caught a pass in 18 straight games and in 29 of his 30-game career ... Nevada forced three fumbles in the first half, recovering one ... Nevada’s 28 first-half points is the most in the first 30 minutes this season (21, vs. Grambling State) ... Nevada has now won six straight non-conference games against non-BCS conference schools.
Nevada will stay on the road for one more week, traveling to Idaho next week to open WAC play against the Vandals. The Pack is in the middle of 35 days between home games
