RENO, Nev. University of Nevada head women’s basketball coach Jane Albright announced the schedule for the 2008 Nugget Classic hosted by Nevada, November 28-29 at Lawlor Events Center.
Nevada will take on Northern Iowa on Friday at 5 p.m. followed by Alabama and Louisville at 7 p.m. On Saturday, the consolation game will be played at 5 p.m. followed by the championship game at 7 p.m.
“I am extremely excited about this year’s Nugget Classic and would like to thank John Ascuaga’s Nugget for their continued support of this event,” head coach Jane Albright said. “Our games in the Nugget Classic will allow us to play some great competition and this year’s field will make for some very exciting games.”
Louisville, who Nevada could face on day two of the Nugget Classic, has received a preseason top-10 ranking from ESPN.com. Nevada’s match up with Northern Iowa will be the first meeting between the two teams since the 1996-97 season while the Pack’s potential game against Alabama would mark the third meeting between the two schools.
This season will mark the seventh time the Pack has hosted the Nugget Classic and Nevada has a 7-5 overall record in the Classic.
Nevada won the Nugget Classic last year defeating Idaho State in the championship game, 74-66, for the Pack’s second Nugget Classic title. Brandi Fitzgerald was named to the All-Tournament team last year while Dellena Criner was named MVP.
