VICTORIA, B.C., Canada Nevada junior Ryan Hallisey shot an eight-under 62 Wednesday to tie the competitive course record and holds a one-stroke lead after the first two rounds of the 42nd Pacific Coast Amateur Championship being held Aug. 5-8 at the Royal Colwood Golf Club.

A native of Granite Bay, Calif., Hallisey holds a one-stroke lead over Derek Tolan of Boulder, Colo., with a two-round total of nine-under 131. Hallisey shot a one-under 69 on Tuesday followed by his course-record 62 on Wednesday.

Halisey’s round on Wednesday included eight birdies and 10 pars. After carding a two-under 33 on his first nine holes on the back nine yesterday, Hallisey made seven birdies in nine holes on the front, including his last five holes.

“I was knocking iron shots close all day and I finally started making some putts,” Hallisey said on the Pacific Coast Amateur Championship website.

A 2007 second-team All-Western Athletic Conference selection, Hallisey turned in four top 10 finishes for the Wolf Pack last year, including a win at the 2008 Fresno State-Nevada Challenge. He was second on the team in stroke average at 74.54, while his college low round is a five-under 67 at the 2007 NCAA West Regional. Hallisey, who will be a junior for the Wolf Pack this season, also won last year’s Northern California GA Amateur.
