The Nevada football team has a handful of positions that need immediate attention. Junior Dayton Guillory appears ready to contribute immediately.

Guillory, a 6-0, 180-pound junior college transfer, has impressed so far this week at the Wolf Pack's preseason camp. The Bossier City, La. native is working with the first team at one of the cornerback spots, which is a thin area for the Wolf Pack.

"We like what we have seen out of him so far," said James Ward, the Pack's first-year cornerbacks coach.

Ward's unit will be a focus in camp and throughout the season as Nevada does not have a cornerback on its roster with game experience at the FBS (Division I-A) level. Guillory comes the closest with two years as a starter at Yuba (Calif.) Community College under his belt.

"He is a tough, tough kid," Ward said. "He plays hard and he is really coachable. And, of course, he's fast."

Guillory may also fill another need for the Pack as a return man. He was one of a half-dozen players auditioning for the punt return job on Wednesday and will continue in that camp-long competition. Guillory is also a candidate for one of the two kickoff return positions that are up for grabs.

"We have to find some guys that have what it takes to get the job done back there on our return game," special teams coordinator Barry Sacks said. "Dayton is one of those guys who is getting a real hard look at both of those spots."
