During Media Day on Monday, Nevada football coach was asked if having two talented quarterbacks with starting experience battling for the starting job was a blessing or a problem.

"Oh no," Ault said. "This is definitely a good thing."

If two standouts is a blessing, then what do you call the situation that running backs coach Jim Mastro has? With the WAC's leading rusher in 2007 Luke Lippincott returning, Mastro and the Pack already had talent to work with. Junior Brandon Fragger is in camp and healthy after showing glimpses of brilliance the past two injury-filled seasons. Vai Taua and Courtney Randall are third-year sophomores ready to make their mark in the backfield. And heralded recruit Mike Ball joined the program this week as well.

The guy who stood out Monday and Tuesday, however, was redshirt freshman Lampford Mark. The speedster from Fresno, Calif. spent his first season tearing it up for the scout team in 2007. Now he's looking for playing time in 2008. He clocked on of the fastest 40-yard dash times on the team during testing on Monday with a 4.41.

"He might be under the radar because everyone knows about Luke and Brandon and all those guys," Mastro said. "But he has a ton of talent and speed and he's right there fighting for carries. The competition in this group is just going to make everyone better."
