Steve Werner certainly looks the part. At 6-foot-5, 310 pounds, the true freshman has the physical stature of a Division I offensive lineman. And after two weeks of preseason camp, Werner is starting to act the part, too.
Like most freshmen, Werner went through an adjustment period during the early part of camp. But he's well into the swing of things now.
"When you talk about where we were two weeks ago when camp started to where we are at now, nobody has made more progress than Steve," said Chris Klenakis, Nevada's offensive coordinator and line coach. "He came in and at the beginning he was just trying to keep his head above water. But he is such a hard worker that he has picked up a lot of things and got his conditioning where it needs to be and he is really starting to understand things now. We are very happy with his progress."
